Guest guest
Dear All, At a time when Lantus and Victoza and other diabetic medication have Black Box Warnings ( Cancer, pancreatitis etc), the following articles are very much welcomed: Four years on, intensive lifestyle changes yield benefits over standard diabetes care http://medicaleconomics.modernmedicine.com/memag/article/articleDetail.jsp?id=72\ 8817 & sk=73e0ded6c6d630bd82a5548949510a0a Intensive lifestyle intervention sends some diabetes cases into remission http://medicaleconomics.modernmedicine.com/memag/article/articleDetail.jsp?id=72\ 8818 & sk=23e88ad7bda268dfb26e029819c22a26 NOW if ONLY I can take my own advice! J Actually I thought it appropriate to show that we may see a drop in the prescriptions of diabetic meds if more doctors would require the patients to read the literature regarding meds vs life style changes. The main problem is by the time the doctor sees the pt with the signs of diabetes for the first time, life style changes are too slow to respond to the immediate high glucose and patient needs. Once the patient is put on diabetic meds the hormone levels affect weight loss, which becomes slower. It is important to teach about diabetes in elementary, junior high and high school to prevent sedentary life styles. We need to put physical activity classes back into the schools where it has been removed. In the mean time we continue to see diabetic drugs with black box warnings STILL on the shelf, still prescribed and many recalled. This site is NOT only for newbies. MANY who are currently working as techs, who are studying to become certified use this site. This information is for all, but more experienced techs will relate to this post than others.
