Hey Hyppi,

Does your wife have an autoimmune thyroid conditions? Grave's or Hashimoto's Disease?

Or a goiter/nodule that may be pumping out hormone independently of the signal the pituitary

is sending? If that is the case she may have troubles tolerating the T4 or T3 in

her hormone replacement. What does she take?

Hashimoto's patients tend to have trouble tolerating the extra T3 in Armour

Thyroid (I am a Hashi's pt. but am also post-total thyroidectomy for Papillary ThyCa)...even without

my gland I still have conversion issues...I had to lower the Armour and add Unithroid (better

version of $ynthroid- synthetic T4 or Thyroxine as you call it)...Unithroid is also known to many doctors

as Thyrox.

I have finally found a good ratio...

but edema (fluid retention) of the ankles is a common symptom of over or under

medicating the thyroid. She should have all of her T's checked. TSH, free T3 and free T4.

And I have been warned that the LDN may change my needs so after I re-initiate

my LDN therapy I will watch my T's closely and adjust my dosage as needed.

I have to stay TSH-suppressed in the hyperthyroid range to prevent any cancer recurrence...

but don't feel too hyper if my dosage is balanced.

My DH is taking LDN now to help lower his cholesterol (family hx of horridly high cholesterol and heart disease),

as a cancer preventative, and for general immune health as he is a pilot and picks up colds easily since he is

exposed to every "germ pool" on the planet at work. He also has a family Hx of Thyroid disease so is hoping to ward

that off as well. So far he is doing quite nicely. Started at 1.5 and is going up to 3.0 this week. Has had no adverse side-effects at all. He also says the tendonitis in one elbow and thumb is feeling better. (good for his golf game!)

Let us know how it goes for your DW. I'll be happy to help with any thyroid-related questions...am practically an endocrinologist by default after my rollercoaster ride with that pesky gland. Have her send me a private email

if she wants to chat.

Best,

Lara

(finally cooling off with a nice breeze in Seattle, WA)
