Guest guest
Hi , First of all congratulations on your weight loss. My son had gastric by pass about 3 yrs ago. He too did very well - I think he was about 32/33 when he did it. He also needed knee replacements but his doctor was trying to put if off awhile longer. As for pain, you can expect to have quite a bit in the beginning. But as you will see here, your pain meds are the important thing to you - take them as directed and speak to the doc if they are not holding you. I had my TKR in Oct. 04. Your question about a home nurse v. inpatient rehab - that will probably depend on your drs. way of doing things. I personally prefer the inpatient rehab. You didn't say if you have family living with you. If you are alone, most definitely try for the inpatient. Don't ever feel like you are alone here. Don't get anxious if you can help it. There is always someone here to jump in with help and understanding. I hope I have been some help to you. If you have other questions, please feel free to ask. In the meantime, stay well and stay informed. There are people here who care very much. Regards, Joy -- total left knee I am having my surgery May 8th I am only 39 yrs old but was 402lbs on my joints for so many years and since ive had my gastric bypass my knees have really showed just how bad they are. I had an injury in 1997 which tore the ACL and I couldnt get any surgeon to fix the ACL because of my weight and now ive lost 262lbs and it took me 4 opinions from some of the best ortho docs who just would not do the total replacement because of my age so I thought geeeeeeeeeeeez now what and finally the last surgeon I seen said to me because I asked him "well what does a person like me do with being in such pain" and he had the Gawl to say to me "KEEP LOOKING UNTIL YOU FIND THE ONE TO PULL THE TRIGGER BECAUSE YOU ARE TOO YOUNG" needless to say I left his office crying.I finally went to another city and seen another set of Ortho Dr's and found Dr Kllassen from OSMC in Elkhart Iniana to take one look at my MRI and said we have got to get you some quality of life. I left there happy but I need some opinions on the pain afterwards and the PT afterwards and how hard it is and will I need a home nurse to come to my house or go to a long term facility short term of course!.Someone talk to me Im getting anxiety.
