No- it does not rule out Echinacea at all. Echinacea is great for jump starting the immune system, fighting viruses and will help prevent a secondary bacterial infection too. - other herbs that are great for fighting viruses include astragalus (herbs for kids makes a children's tincture) licorice, lomatium (very potent anti viral) and reishi. If she is nursing, the most important thing would be to nurse and nurse and nurse- breast milk will help him get well and help heal the sores- it is by far the best medicine that was ever invented ;-) I would also give him plain whole milk organic yogurt with live cultures- it will feel good and give relief and help heal. The fever usually passes pretty fast. His fever is not too high. It will help him to kick the infection too. If he becomes uncomfortable add 3 drops of the inflammation blend (the oils will be very good for this) I gave you for the pain in your finger in a tepid bath (comfortable) and either let him bathe or give him a bath with a soaked and wrung washcloth while he is laying on a towel and covered with another- just pat him gently and it will pull the heat right out. I don't recommend using Peppermint with a young child but it will be an very low amount and the blend should soothe him....and I know it's something you have otherwise I would suggest something else. Where are his sores and how bad are they? Hands, Feet, Mouth? Legs? Arms? Buttocks? Too much juice can weaken his immune system and could irritate the sores. I would suggest water, breast milk or an herbal tea. A good healing chicken soap that's not to hot would be good too if he is eating solids. Let me know where the sores are and how bad they are and I can suggest something. Do you have Tea Tree? Geranium? Bergamot? Niaouli? Ravensara? Myrrh? Chamomile? Eucalyptus (radiata? citriodora? Sweet Orange? Do you have any tinctured or oil infused calendula? Good news is it should go away soon- poor little guy ;-( He should be kept away from other kids because it is contagious though. It is usually not something to be too concerned about. We can focus on boosting the immune system and giving comfort and alleviating the symptoms. I should think homeopathy would be a good method of treatment for a child with sore in the mouth/ tongue especially and who is to young to use a mouth wash, rinse. Whole Life Essentials.
