Guest guest
Glad you made it in one piece! I have to second you on the proair. I've been using it for several months now so I've pretty much gotten used to it, but I definately think it isn't as effective. It seems like I don't get as much in each puff as with my old inhalers. I find myself having to repeat more often. And they certainly aren't lasting as long. Dr says it's because I switched during the bad time of year for me so it's my lungs not the inhaler - but he's never used one so how does he know? I'm very involved in campaigning for our envoirnment so the issue near and dear to my heart - But I have to wonder how much damage inhalers actually cause compared to things like cars, factories, etc? It can't be THAT much - give me my old inhaler back!!! Anyone else notice a difference? Guest guest
Glad you finally made it to New York. I'm glad you made your walk without major trouble--good for you that you were prepared, though. Suggestion: Don't make a big deal about going on a diet to your family. Just quietly do what you can to stay on the South Beach or to basically cut out the " white carbs " , not the good carbs. They can't be against your eating salads, or fish, or green veggies. It would be nice to have some support, but sometimes it is just better to just quietly make the changes--eat what you can and just quietly pass up the other. If they insist that you try something not on the diet, eat a bite or two to be nice and then don't eat any more (I know--that's hard to do!) I have trouble with your family's attitude...So you are in my prayers as you spend time with them. Take care of yourself--that's what all of us have had to do--no one else is going to be as concerned about your health as you will be. I am taking care of my 92 year old Mom (who lives by herself and can no longer leave her apartment without a wheel chair and help), and I don't dare tell her now when I really feel bad or am having trouble breathing, (which has been really rare since xolair) as she cries because she can't come help me or take care of me! I have trouble not hovering over my own grown children when they are sick. I have to remind myself my son is married--his wife now takes care of him when he is sick, and my daughter is an adult who is very responsible and independent! (Both of my children have allergies and mild asthma symptoms.) So it's sometimes hard for me to understand families not being concerned about their children, no matter what age. I think part of the problem is that when we feel good, we feel really good and then people don't really believe us when we are sick....(forgive the rattling on here....) I also agree with you about the pro air. I do not like it as well as I did the old albuterol inhalers, but that is all I can get now. It is a soft, slow delivery and I think it takes a little longer to " kick in. " It is not an instant rescue like the old albuterol--at least that's what I think. If I really feel a need for some help, I will do my neb in the morning when I first get up and then I don't need any help the rest of the day. but I do carry that little red inhaler with me always, just in case. Put on some warm clothes and enjoy your time with your nephews (nieces, too). meencantador <meencantador@...> wrote: the paperwork transfer went smoothly from the Fl dr's to my NY dr. I can continue on my injections to my dr in NY. That's awesome. Glad something went smoothly. My car made it to NY in one piece. However, the other day, the radiator died. It lasted a good 5 years, longer than my ex boyfriend and I. Come to think of it, the lifetime of my car lasted longer than he and I. Anyway, may the radiator rest in peace. It was a good hard life for it to keep my car going. Lord knows, I feel like I live in my car, I drive to so many places. I got that fixed and on my merry way. Yesterday was a set back though. There were no other cars at the house I could borrow to get to town. I had to walk to town. It's colder in NY. The evil candy was not kind to my hips, legs, knees. ok, to sum that up, it was not kind to my body. The walk was not an easy one. There I am, walking 3 miles to town. I was enthusiastic because it was a golden opportunity to get some exercise. (Although having 2 small nephews run around, planning pirate battles...{pirates of the caribbean} that is exercise in itself.). I took a mask and my albuterol with me bc of the flowers, grass, etc. I took my time bc of the pain. The smell of cut grass. Not a good thing. It may be to non allergy/asthma people but not to me. I made it to town. In one piece, well, that's debatable. A store owner was nice enough to set me up with a hot cup of tea to get myself situated. He spoke to me about Fla (he moved there once, only to return....that seems common and I will fall into that line as well within a year). He told me which transit bus to take back. Thanking the man, I was off. The bus stopped 2 miles outside of where I needed to be. SO I walked again. The nebulizer, which I call Neb, my best friend these days, we spent quality time together for the latter half of the day. This is off topic on xolair but no stranger to the asthma world. Albuterol: Some pharmaceuticals are discontinuing the manufacturing of some of the MDI's and replacing it for another MDI. IT is still albuterol just in a smaller dispenser. It is to be CFC free. I am now on proair. I believe Ivax makes in instead of like warwick, glaxo, etc It is smaller, as stated above. But I also feel it comes out of the dispenser slower. Maybe it is me and my head doing a head trip. I feel like it is not as effective. Of course when I took it, I was doing laundry for my folks and the basement is moldy and musky and I had that excursion to town. I felt winded, my chest was tight and it felt like 50 pounds was on my chest. I took the inhaler but again, it seemed not to dispense as quickly. It was more gentle, slow and a lighter mist am I completely off? I go to the dr Monday. We'll have a litany of things to discuss I also started here the south beach diet, except family does not support it. I will do the best of what I can but they sure put obstacles in the way. I will do the best I can, then go full throttle when I return to Florida. I don't believe in diet pills. I feel if they were to truly work, the whole world would be skinny. It is not a miracle in the bottle. Human effort needs to be a contributing factor. Hope all is well. It is cold in NY. 59 degrees this AM. I got use to the 90 degree weather. Oh well, time to bundle up. Where are the gloves, ear muffs and scarf? LOL. No seriously. Time to get the flannels out. Take care, thanks for reading. Hope everyone is doing well. --------------------------------- Need Mail bonding? Go to the Q & A for great tips from Answers users.
Guest guest
Meencantador, I mentioned I was starting the South Beach Diet about 3 weeks ago. I have now lost 10 pounds. I had been struggling for 6 months of diet and excersise to lose weight and I hadn't lost a pound. Doc recommended the SBD and it seems to be working. I can't follow it exactly due to work demands but I have cut out the carbs, sugars, etc..that it calls for. I have just added fruit back in but still no carbs. With the the gym workouts toning me up and the 10 pound weight loss I am feeling pretty good. So try your best with the diet. You may not be able to follow it exactly as it is written but you can tailor it to fit your life. Sorry about all the other stuff going on in your life. I hope things settle down for you soon! Guest guest
It is the medicine, not you! I noticed the pro air isn't as effective as well .The propellants in the old one really did help in delivering the medicine better. Try using a spacer and see if that helps... Guest guest
Absolutely I agree, here in Australia they stopped putting cfcs in puffers about 6 years ago and I remember a huge difference just as you described with slower puffs, thinner stream of medication and it not being able to move quickly but even with my arguments I was told that they will never go back to cfcs cause they damage our ozone and its still the same metered dose that comes out of the puffer but I can tell you it took a lot of getting used to. Guest guest
I wonder too about how much is effecting the ozone layer. Especially because the inhaler is going into my mouth and I inhale the medication. It is not like a can of hair spray that I spray around my head. debandlogiebear@... wrote: Glad you made it in one piece! I have to second you on the proair.
