Hi group,

I had total knee replacement 8 months ago, and did very well

through my physical therapy.(worked very hard at it)But, now it's been

8 months, and I still have quite a bit of pain. It this normal?

I've heard some people say that it takes about a year for the pain

to diminish, and then others hardly have any post-op pain at all. I'd

be grateful for any input from those of you who have been through this.

Does stress play a part in the pain? (I've been through quite a

bit of emotional stress since surgery)

Thanks,

Hi group,

I am a 49 year old female, who had total knee replacement of my

left knee 8 months ago. I went through my physical therapy, which

went

well, but I am still having quite a bit of pain in my knee. I guess

that I expected it to be gone by now. I've met so many others who

have

had great success with this surgery, and maybe I'm just being too

impatient with mine. I am taking glucosamine, and read some of the

other posts about taking this with an artificial joint. I've been

taking it for about 3 months now and haven't seen any difference, so

I

am wondering if it's doing me any good.

When I had my replacement, I had already had two surgeries to

try

to repair a torn meniscus. What I didn't know, was that my doctor

was

getting on in years, and kind of " needed to retire " . By the time I

got

to a different doctor, I was in horrible pain (on top of an existing

pain condition) The new doctor said that I was " walking bone on bone

and was surprised that I was still walking " . It did hurt really bad.

Now, 8 months out, and hoping the pain would be gone by now, I

am

beginning to get frustrated. The pain isn't as BAD as before, it's

just different. (but it's still there) Walking for any length of

time

really hurts, as well as stairs and keeping my leg in any one

position

for more than a few minutes. I've read about this surgery, and the

post-care, but there doesn't seem to be much information

about " longer

term " pain and care management. That's why I wrote in on this site.

I

just wanted to get a few other ideas and to see if others are

hurting

too. I am still positive about my recovery, but some days I get

frustrated. Also, I was wondering about doing more exercises, but

just doing the physical therapy exercises irritate it enough. How

much is too much when it comes to exercise? or too little?
