Guest guest
Xolair is not known for causing " itchy red rashes " . I have know of a few cases where people have had bumps at the injection sight. I don't know of any indications under the side effects listing for the sudden development of " itchy red rashes. " Just out of curiosity, have you recently been around a dog or cat? Or even been outside say like maybe taking a walk in the woods or even working in the yard/garden? I only say this because what you might have is a simple case of Poison Ivy or Poison Oak. If you have been around a cat or dog who loves to rub up against you and they have been rolling around in either you can get it from them. The oils will stick to their fur and if they rub up against a person the oils will then get on the person's skim. Just a thought from some one who is VERY familiar with that. I've had it way to many times..I've had spots show up around my ankles and behind my knees, when I wasn't exposed to the actual " weeds " . I have animals who LOVE to rub up against me. Have rashes appear around my ankles, behind my knees and in the inner elbow joints of my arms I am also an Ornamental Horticulturist and a Master Gardener, so I do know quite a bit about plants. I know.... isn't that a very odd career/hobby to have when you are an allergic asthmatic! LOL!! Talk about a glutton for punishment!! --- Boychuck <sboychuck@...> wrote: > Hello all... > > I had my first Xolair shot four weeks ago (150 mg > every four weeks) > and about ten days ago I developed a small rash on > both legs behind my > knee's and on the inside of my arms behind my > elbows. Guest guest
Yes, a few months ago I developed a rash very similar to what you describe, including the intense itching. I had been on Xolair for about a year without any reactions until this, and I'm not a " rash person " at all. Probably the last rash I had of any kind was about 50 years ago when I had the measles! My allergist and I did, of course, wonder whether this was a reaction to Xolair, which I had received about 10 days before the rash appeared. But there were other possible culprits - I had eaten crab and chocolate the night before (never had had a reaction to crab but I am mildly allergic to chocolate). Also, I had been taking an herbal supplement, bromelain, for arthritis pain for about a month. So.... I was given a steroid injection, which cleared up the rash in about 3 days, and I stopped the bromelain, in addition to avoiding crab and chocolate for a while. Two weeks later I had Xolair again with no subsequent rash or any other symptoms, so it wasn't that, thank God. Eventually I ate crab again and went back to having a little chocolate, again with no rash. The only thing I haven't tried again is the bromelain - between what I'd already taken and the steroid injection, my symptoms were much better and have stayed that way so far. If (more likely when) the joint and other pains return, I'll try bromelain again. I suspect that was the offender for me, which would be too bad because it really helped with the pain. Having said all that, patients have had the same type of rash apparently due to Xolair, so that may be what happened to you, but I hope not for your sake. Can you think of anything else that is new in the past month or two? Any supplements? Otherwise, you'll just have to wait until the rash clears and try Xolair again if your doc is willing. Good luck! Guest guest
Steve - I had a mild reaction (swollen throat, a little difficulty breathing, wheezing, rash) 24 hours after my first shots of 375 mg - lasted only a few hours. Haven't had a reaction since, except for a bad case of the sleepies the first day after and a mild headache the second day. Terry ----- Original Message ----- From: Boychuck Sent: Friday, May 18, 2007 8:30 PM Subject: [ ] My doctor would not give me my injection today... Hello all... I had my first Xolair shot four weeks ago (150 mg every four weeks) and about ten days ago I developed a small rash on both legs behind my knee's and on the inside of my arms behind my elbows. I have been trying to knock it down with Benadryl and Cortizone Cream. That slowed it down a bit, but it has persisted and is expanding up and down my legs and arms. It is red and bumpy and does itch pretty good. Absolutely nothing has changed in my day to day life. Same clothes (no new ones), body soap, laundry detergent, fabric softener, food, etc. I am having an allergic reaction to something???? I went in for my allergy and Xolair shot and my dr. got a bit nervous. He believes it may be a delayed reaction to the Xolair. He said he will not consider another shot until the rash is gone. I have been getting allergy shots for six weeks (one per week) and I have still not reacted to the shot. So, they are increasing the percentage of allergen each time. I am half way through round two of four, then I will hit my maint. dose (one shot per month for one year). I am allergic to molds, cat dander and dust mites. I have not been around anything different either. So, my dr. prescribed me some Betamethasone Valerate Cream USP 0.1% to see if it can stop the rash. I hope this stops the rash in its tracks so I can continue with the Xolair therapy? It is pretty much the last thing to try. I am on 40 mg of the evil candy and a bunch of other stuff. I developed my allergic asthma after I was exposed to high levels of the things I am allergic to while at work doing an inspection of a home. I did not know that I was allergic to these things until I was exposed. In fact, I did not have asthma until I was exposed. This all started at the end of September 2006. So, the past eight months have pretty much side-lined me. It put me out of work for six months and I am on desk-duty for the next two months, at least. My question is, has anyone experienced what I am experiencing? Any rash that has started after Xolair has begun. Does anyone have any thoughts on what is going on? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Guest guest
I can't remember who asked if you if you'd been in poison ivy or oak, but that was the first thing I've thought of b/c I've had a rash EXACTLY like what you described after exposure to poison oak! This was pre-Xolair - it happened twice - both times I required antibiotics and prednisone to get rid of it. Both times it happened after gardening in my own yard. Since Xolair, I have not had any rashes after gardening, thank goodness. I " d make a list of everything you did or ate in the 72 hours prior to the rash developing. If you choose to get another round of Xolair shots, do the same thing before you get the shots and for 72 hours after and see if you can rule Xolair out. Good luck, Addy > > Hello all... > > I had my first Xolair shot four weeks ago (150 mg every four weeks) > and about ten days ago I developed a small rash on both legs behind my > knee's and on the inside of my arms behind my elbows.
