Guest guest
Hi, I am new to the group, and like to ask a quetion regarding Xolair shots. I started Xolair shots in 6/2003 to help reduce prednesone, to this day I have not reduce one gram of pred. nor seen any interest of my Drs to reduce it. Iam geeting very concerned about the news regarding the side effects announced by the FDA of this drug.On the other hand up to this day a have not noticed any big change with my astma, I am still on prednesone and advir. Due to these reason a Have decided the srtating this month I will not longer tahe this shot. Am I overly concerned? Any comment willbe appreciated, Micki
Guest guest
If you have been on Xolair for nearly three years, and not seen sufficient improvement in your symptoms that you can decrease prednisone and your other meds, than it may very well be that Xolair is not helping you. It is VERY expensive. Not all of us who have had success have been able to decrease meds, but nearly all of us have seen marked improvement within a year, maybe 15 months at the longest of starting the drug. Have you and your docs tried taking your pred dosage down and seeing what happens? If not, and if you are symptoms free, you may want to do that. BUt if you are still having as many asthma episodes as you were, then it is very possible that your asthma does not have a strong allergic component and therefore does not respond to Xolair. Xolair is for ALLERGIC asthma only, and does not treat intrinsic asthma (such as asthma caused by emphasyma, exercise, or some other non-allergic trigger). Good luck, thanks for posting, let us know what happens. Guest guest
If you decide to discontinue the med's. I'd suggest you don't tell your insurance company right away. If you can afford it get at least one months worth while you stop. I stopped taking it believing that it wasn't working. When I stopped I found out in a hurry just how well it was working. I didn't tell my insurance company a thing. I just decided to stop to " see what happens. " I had one dose in the fridge and after 2 weeks I was back in the doc's office getting my regular shots. It's been a long time for you so you may not have the same experience that I did when I stopped but just to be sure try to keep at least one month's worth just in case you find out it was helping you after all. mickigill <larmic2004@...> wrote: Hi, I am new to the group, and like to ask a quetion regarding Xolair shots. Guest guest
my 2 cnts worth--many things trigger asthma. allergy to mold is in this category but another response to mold is the very different response to mold mycotoxins. i did not take my injection today as i was feeling better by a bit. my ige has increased by 250 per cent over the past 6 months and the very first time i took it my blood pressure zoomed and also with the last dose. also i think i tend to swell from xolair so i dont know what to do. pyle456 <coachmac@...> wrote: If you have been on Xolair for nearly three years, and not seen sufficient improvement in your symptoms that you can decrease prednisone and your other meds, than it may very well be that Xolair is not helping you.
