Guest guest
No, I'm the one who's been too chickent to go back, but I know I need to go so I'm going to go this summer. I am lucky in that my GP and my allergist are with a conglomerate and practice across the hall from each other. When I started seeing this GP in late 2002, she said there is actually a formula they can use with inhaled steroids to determine what amount of inhaled steroids equals what amount of oral steroids in order to help determine total steroid levels in patients that need a ton of both. (Of course, there is one downside to having two docs who see each other every day - I get twice the nagging about the same things as I did before!) I was diagnosed with osteopenia and put on 500mg of calcium w vitamin D three times per day as well as weight-bearing exercise. Another upside to the latter is that I've found exercises to do with my hand weights that get rid of that arm flab! Anyhoo, i'm not on boniva b/c I haven't hit menopause yet, but my GP says at any point if my dexa scan gets any worse, it's hello boniva regardless of how old I am. So,yes, Fran's right - we all need to get our bones scanned! Addy Group co-owner > > > > > > > > > > Ohmygoodness! Guest guest
Oops. I left out something really important for prevention and treatment of osteopenia/osteoporosis, something we all love.....exercise!!! The weight-bearing kind. Easiest is walking. You can also do resistance excercise in a gym. Really, really, really important!!! Fran > > > > > > > > > > > > Ohmygoodness! Guest guest
That is one of many reasons that I have been going to the gym for the past 3 months. I seem to have shrunk and inch in the last few years so I decided I better do some strength training to prevent any further bone loss! I had been walking for a while but I knew I needed to start doing some weight bearing excercise to help with the old bones. Feels great to get toned up and feel strong. And finally starting to lose some weight on the South Beach Diet. By the way..when you are hurting it is extrememly difficult to start excercising. But once you start and have been doing it a few weeks you will start to notice a difference. Don't let your pain stop you from getting started. Not only will you strengthen your lungs and bones but you will feel and look better too! Jeannie --- tiredofsteroids <sitesee@...> wrote: > Oops.
