Hi all..My name is Ginger..I am married with 4 kids. Brittany is 18,

is 11, Jordon is 7 and Zachary is 4. My son has had severe

asthma and severe allergies since he was roughly 3 months old. At

that time it started out as sleep apnea and by the time he was 15

months old we were doing albuteral neb treatments. From about age 5

he started on the inhaler and singulair. He has always had to use

his inhaler for any physical activites esp while in public school or

when ill. At least once a month he was in the ER and admitted to the

hospital for a flare up with his Asthma. Many times he was put on IV

or oral steroids to help. Over the course of the years we have tried

Advair and other allergy and asthma meds with no help. And if they

did help he had bad reactions to them! almost 4 years ago I pulled

him out of public school, and quit my nursing job so I could

homeschool him to keep him away from the sick kids at school and to

protect him from gym and recess they would force him to do that he

couldn't handle! We are at the peds at least once a month trying to

get meds changed that will help my son but nothing so far has

worked. We seen an allergist some years ago to determine what his

allergies are..He has multiple ones. His severe ones are to milk

protein, trees, grass and dust mites! Three weeks ago I woke up to

hearing a loud thump and squealing sound. I got up to find my son

barely breathing, blue and passed out in the hallway of our home. I

called 911 and started a nebulizer treatment immediately. Luckily my

son is a strong person and pulled through. He was in grave condition

that morning. Since then, we have been to a lung specialist whos ran

a bunch of tests on my son. He has also put him on xopenex Inh and

nebs, pulmocort, and prednisone 10mg every other day! He also is

still on the singulair! He did the PFT test and my son only has 52%

lung function. After a neb treatment and while on oxygen his lung

function is only at 68%. He also suffers from sleep apnea still and

will have a more thorough sleep study done on the 19th~ He also

suffers from SVT (Supraventricular tachycardia) which the doctors now

believe is as a results of long term constant use of albuteral~

My son is in poor condition. his physical activities are very limited

because he cannot breath. The lung specialist is now talking about

putting him on Xolair which I have mixed feelings about. He is also

wanting to send him to The Allergy Associates of La Crosse in hopes

to desensitize him to the allergies triggering his asthma

problems! I am now questioning him being able to do both the

xolair and desensitizing to his allergies at the same time. His IgG

level was 698. More than enough to qualify for the Xolair. I guess I

am looking for support. I love the pulmonologist he is seeing and so

far he seems to be moving us in the right direction and doing so

quickly! They are waiting on approval from the insurance company for

the Xolair and are trying to figure out who they will get the xolair

from! Most of his doctors patients are now getting them at home! So

far they are thinking that he will be able to begin the xolair next

week!

Anyway I tried to make this a brief into. We have gone through so

much and done so much as far as his Asthma is concerned but I didn't

want my into to sound like I was a motormouth!
