Guest guest
Hi Nan, Yes, it is normal for some, All pred doses bother me with mood swings, but when I get to 50mgs or higher I'm out of control; Hyper, combative, emotional, and extreme mood swings the intensity is different for everyone. Nan any frustration or depression about being sick is often very amplified when on high doses of pred. Hope you will be doing better soon and be able to continue your taper. Hang in there it can be tough hugs to you. Take care, Laurie --- Seychelles Fruit Bat <pteropus.seychellensis@...> wrote: > It's late, and my lung doctor is out of town. Guest guest
Oh one more thing this worked for me but check with your doctor I would split them in two doses. Because if I took that high of a dose I couln't sleep. I would take the first dose early at breakfast and then the second either with a snack or early lunch. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Prednisone whacks me out, among other things. When I first started taking it I almost got fired, aggressive & angry amplified, then wanted to cry. Keep in mind I am (was) a very nonemotional person so it scared me and everybody else. When I realized why I was acting the way I was, it was easier to deal with. Now I rarely get angry but several times a day I feel like crying, but it passes. My wife kept asking, what's wrong, I'd advise her, " it's the prednisone " , and now she understands and lets it go. For someone who was always in control of their emotions, this was very disconcerting. This is why Xolair is so great! Some get off of Prednisone completely, some only need occasional bursts, and other get their daily doses of prednisone lowered. A good book, I highly recommend it and it was recommended to me by this site is, " Coping with Prednisone " (and other cortisone-related medicines) by Eugnia Zukerman and R. Guest guest
Actually, my pulmo called me, because the on call Dr. wanted me to go to the ER. I hate that particular ER, because usually I & #39;d just be getting breathing treatments and oral pred anyhoo. The comromise is starting 60 mg pred and seeing my pulmo today. The goal of me not going to the ER was obtained, but at a price. I will never go as high as 60mgs ever again. I also have Xanax on hand, but I was such a mess, didn & #39;t want to take it. Didn & #39;t want to add another variable. I & #39;m also taking the pred all before 9am. Supposedly it is easier on your body doing it that way. Ugh..... Guest guest
I get the same thing on prednisone...remember, it totally throws off more than one hormone in your body when you're on it. In addition to the cortisol, it also has the potential to increase blood glucose levels, which throw off your body's insulin production. And any kind of singular disturbance in your body chemistry can cause mood swings...think about the havoc that prednisone can wreak on you! It does the job of getting us to breathe again, but it can make us a little loopy from time to time doing it! As far as how to take them, I typically get fewer reactions to the prednisone when I split them up in the am and pm as equally as I can. However, sometimes it gets a little hard to breathe towards the next dose, since it doesn't always stay in your body at therapeutic levels for a 24 hour period. I hope that this helps, Sheila
Guest guest
When I have these extreme emotional feelings I reassure myself it is the prednisone... extreme mood swings from crying to irritability to ROID RAGE. I alert my family that I will be very short tempered and moody and why. Sometimes I am so tense I feel it physically in my scalp, back of neck and upper shoulders and that is an indicator that I should try to avoid social situations that are going to make me anxious and snap at someone unintentionally. I am also driven to gluttony trying to kill that horrible feeling in my stomach and no amount of bread, pasta or ice cream has any effect. I take a lot of nice soaky baths for the tension and lay a series of hot washcloths over my shoulder and in the middle of my upper back and on on my chest while in the tub - it helps a lot. I am still looking for a magic wand to make the nausea disappear - bippity boppity boo! __________________________________________________
