Guest guest
After my first shot of xolair on last Monday, I still feel my head heavy and my energy level gone down than before. Any one else feel the same type of side effects? Please let me know. Thanks, Anita
Guest guest
What do you mean by your head is heavy? I had my first shot three weeks ago and I had nervousness and dizziness that lasted for two days. However, I think the improvement that I'm getting was well worth the shot! > > After my first shot of xolair on last Monday, I still feel my head > heavy and my energy level gone down than before. Guest guest
I just got a new shipment of Xolair and for the first time, there was a caution sticker on the package reading " This medication can make you dizzy " . They also put one on that said, " To mix, roll gently between palms of hands " . I've been on Xolair for more than four years (my doctor lets me self-inject) and that's the first time I've seen either of those stickers! To be honest, I really don't think this specialty pharmacy (McKesson)has ever read the mixing protocol. They send me 10 mL of sterile water per each vial and only one 18 and three 25 gauge needles per vial. They think I'm supposed to pierce a septum with a 25 gauge needle? I've called and complained, but they won't listen because I'm a patient. --Kitty > > > > Hi Anita, > > > > I received my 5th Shots last week. Guest guest
Hello, My nurse who gives me the injection said that being tired after the shots was a normal side effect. She also said that many people in her office on X experience being tired after the shot. Kristy From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of instdesgn1 Sent: Sunday, December 16, 2007 11:17 PM Subject: [ ] Re: Side effects That's interesting and I'm curios - who told you it was normal to be tired after the Xolair injection? When I started in March, after the first shot, I slept like the dead for about the first day. After that I didn't notice so much - at the most a few seconds of dizziness or an odd feeling. I sort've write off the first shot to anxiety but perhaps it was the new chemical in my body. --- In <mailto: %40> , " Kristy Lynn " <makklynn5@...> wrote: > > Hi Anita, > > I received my 5th Shots last week. But that leaves me no 18-gauge needles to get the water into the Xolair vials in the first place, or having to reuse the needle I used to push the water into the vial. Without reusing the needle (that has been sitting around wet while you are mixing the solution), you have to pierce two septa with a 25-gauge needle. The doctor's office has complained that they have to spend a long time on hold with them whenever they have to contact them. Last time I brought it up, the office gave me a bunch of 18-gauge needles rather than call them! --Kitty
Guest guest
Sounds like a good solution to a ridiculous problem! - Fran > > > > You can draw the Xolair up with the 18-gauge and then change the > > needle to the 25-gauge in order to inject. Guest guest
I use the same needle to put the saline solution into the Xolair and then draw it out. That is how my doctor's office taught me hoe to do it and I'm pretty sure that's how they do it in other Dr's offices. Besides if you are injecting yourself, you aren't going to do any harm, because you can't self contaminate yourself. Just make sure you put the cover over the sharp when you are mixing the saline/xolair solution! You could always swipe the sharp with an alcohol swab, if you are worried about it getting " dirty " in between draws. --- lurkitty117 <scruffy@...> wrote: > > > > > You can draw the Xolair up with the 18-gauge and > then change the > > needle to the 25-gauge in order to inject. Guest guest
I had sent in this reply on side effects thread but it got returned to me, so I'll post it here. Someone had detailed how they felt after an injection. I've had a few of those side effects: I felt awful after my first two monthly injections of Xolair, the next few were much better. I just had my sixth yesterday and went to an appt. afterwards. Later that afternoon and into the evening I was impatient and irritable with my gentleman and 'doing it' rather than talking and explaining... so I kind of know what you mean about not being able to focus, I couldn't concentrate to engage in dialogue. That's so unlike talkative me. But other than that, no ill effects after shot number six. ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Never miss a thing. Guest guest
I wouldn't wipe alcohol onto the sharp (if any got carried into the vial from inside the needle it would inactivate a bit of the Xolair) but you should re-wipe the septum before introducing any needle again, new or used. Also, anytime you put the cover back on a sharp (considered to be an incorrect practice due to risk of accidental needlestick injury), you should lay the cover on the table and then ease the sharp back into the cover without holding onto the cover. Best by far would be to use a second 18-gauge needle to draw the mixed Xolair up after rewiping the septum. The risk of contamination is not from you but from the exposed surface of the septum, even though it's been protected in a sterile way until you uncap it. -Fran > > > > > > You can draw the Xolair up with the 18-gauge and > > then change the > > > needle to the 25-gauge in order to inject.
