When your child is dying, you will try anything. Our eleven year old son at the

time

was desperately trying to live in a world that he was allergic to. This

contributed to

chronic hives, vomiting, and severe asthma. We spent countless times in the

emergency rooms and doctor's office. He was taking 13 different medications

to

stay alive, nebbing several times a day, and getting a shot of Decadron. In

one

day, we had to go back to get another shot. His doctor told us of the new IGE

therapy drug (Xolair)...we just had to wait until it was FDA approved and get

our

insurance to approve an eleven year old. The answer finally came when we

desperately needed it...we had to take another ambulance trip to the hospital

with medics tyring to keep him breathing. Approval and 20% of the cost of

Xolair saved our son's life. After the

first shot, the hives that covered his body for years DISAPPEARED. After a

year, he was able to tolerate smells, fumes, and smoke. Four years later, he

does not take any medications for his asthma other than allergy shots and

Xolair. The expense and risk

have been worth the life that has been given our son for the last four years.

BJ, I just love it when you post. It makes me so happy to hear how

your son is doing and to know that many severe allergic asthmatic

children DO NOT have to suffer like I did, and like your son was,

before Xolair.

Dear :

60 years ago, my sister struggled to breathe and stay alive. She did live to

1985, but I feel certain she would be alive today had xolair been discovered 25

or 30 years ago. So my heart understood your angst--while my sister's asthma

was very bad as a child, it was never as bad as your son's.

So I say " Let's celebrate the breakthrough in asthma treatment with the

discovery and approval of xolair! " What a great success story. Here I am an

older lady, happy to be on xolair, and with the majority of my life behind me,

but here is your son who now has a future ahead of him because of xolair! Thank

God for researchers who were willing to keep on until they found something that

would really benefit the majority of asthmatics! And how wonderful that your

son was allowed to have this life-saving drug when he probably needed it the

very most!

He should be a poster child for xolair! I know that we have other mother's

whose children are on xolair, also. Hope we hear from them, too.

Thanks so much for sharing this wonderful story.

It is certainly a time to celebrate! I pray that others can breathe easier

with Xolair.
