Guest guest
Hi, I began receiving Xolair in 5/05, and am seeing REALLY unbelieveable results. I get 3 shots (375mg/2wks) and I don't go to my pulmo for the shots so I see my pulmo every couple months. I go to my PCP's office for the shots and it's pretty funny, my PCP is in a practice with 4 other doctors, and my doctor is the one who gives me the shots like 90% of the time but it's not at all unusual to have at least 1 other doctor besides my PCP in the room just watching because I'm the only patient in their very large practice on Xolair. Before Xolair and even a year or so after I started receiving it (my pulmo says it is b/c my IgE was so high, 1,100) I had 4 lengthy hospitalizations and 3 ER visits (now that doesn't seem like a lot but it is considering that I'm only 20 and all of those happened within 7 months). I was and still am steroid-dependent (10mg Prednisone every other day) and was virtually attached to my nebulizer. Now, the reults are AMAZING! When I saw my pulmo this past friday he was in shock because the spirometry I do in his office had me at 100% of predicted (granted it was a prednisone day and we have low-standards for me - but thats huge - I'd never done taht before). I also sounded great according to my dr, and I'm now at q2-3hrs with just atrovent in my neb, which is still very frequent but it's so much better than doing them continuously. I'll always be on Xolair and probably at this dose, but while it certainly hasn't 'cured' me, it's given me a life. Guest guest
CONGRATULATIONS on your big improvement! I, too, am at that dose and expect to be until the next generation of immunomodulators (e.g., Xolair) come along. I hope they come in pre-made vials! Addy Group co-owner Xolair forever! > > > > In honor, lets celebrate by having members share their success > stories. > > This is the main reason I started this group. Guest guest
In May of 2005 I was in such bad shape from Adult-On-Set asthma that walking from the couch to the kitchen made me have to rest as I would be breathing hard gasping for breath. I had to rest 1/2 through shaving. I was passing out from coughing so hard (lots of bruising there). I did not know what was going on, as I did not have asthma as a child, that I knew of, so this was all new to me. I had to retire early due to asthma, and my Primary Care Physician quit the medical practice (hope I didn't have anything to do with it, LOL). My Pulomo took me on as a PCP since, " 95% of my problems were asthma and asthma related " . He put me on Xolair and it took a year to get progressively " better " . I now am dragged to WalMart by my wife to accompany her shopping, I am limited by activity but am able to live a life removed from the living room chair. I still take all the medications I took in 2005, but my quality of life is so much better, I am so grateful to Xolair, everything is relative. If for some reason I was required to stop taking Xolair, the devastation to my life would be unmeasurable. I am also grateful to this group, it is my rock when it comes to asthma. Guest guest
Thanks! It took a LONG time for me to see results from Xolair but it just got to the point where I was like " What can Xolair hurt? " I am so glad I stuck with it. The way I think of asthma as a whole is like a cliff, and when I was REALLY bad I was at the bottom, Xolair makes it so that I am much closer to the top though not cured, I have a LONG way to fall before I get to the bottom. I hope for all of us who have seen what wonders Xolair can work that none of us reaches the bottom EVER again. Guest guest
Doug Thanks so much for starting this group!!! AND thanks so much for telling us all about it at the Xolair Speaker Summit!!! I think most of us who belong to this group will agree that it is very comforting to know that as an individual user, one feels more at ease knowing about others who are going through the same things as they are! Nice to not feel alone anymore!!! Nice to know that everyone else in here has had to deal with those darn Asthnostics. Before Xolair I was a total and utter mess!! But I hadn't always been a severe asthmatic. I'm now 40 but have had " lung issues " since day one. I had pneumonia twice as an infant. I was diagnosed with asthma when I was 10. Growing up I never had any pets, because of my asthma and allergies. Funny thing is, I had always been athletic- swam, ran track, played high school basketball, was a cheerleader in both high school and college ( We beat Temple over the weekend! GO BULLS!!! LOL!!) I also sang both my church and school choirs. Was an All county & all state rep for my school and belonged to the " University Coral " , when I was in college. I think my over active use of my lungs/diaphragm helped in controlling my asthma, because it strengthened my lungs, plus helped me naturally remove mucus from my lungs. But..then I got old......since 2001 I had well over 40 trips to the ER for my asthma. I've been admitted half of those times and twice I suffered Respiratory Failure-Nov 18, 2004 and May 4, 2005. I've been on 300 mg of Xolair every two weeks since July 5th 2005. I have surpassed the 100 injection mark( just did #110 on Sunday!!!). I've cut my meds down to 3 ( from 10 different kinds per day!) Besides Xolair, I use a rescue inhaler " as needed " , and am on Advair 250/50 ONCE per day as a " maintenance drug " as per my Allergist, who I may add is AWESOME! I also see a Pulmonologist-he's the one who initially put me on Xolair. (sadly he's missed the boat on a few things with me.) Xolair has given me back my life and then some. As I said before, I was never " allowed " to have pets. Since 2006 my family of five humans has added 3 retired racing greyhounds. SO..Xolair has not only improve the quality of life for me, it's also given a " forever home " to three awesome dogs!!!!! PLUS...my husband and three kids don't have to worry about mommy and her asthma like they used to! I will tell you that my asthma has had a very profound effect on my eldest, who is in 6th grade. When he was in 4th grade, his teacher made the kids write about something that had had a big impact on them. He wrote about " the night my mommy had an asthma attack and turned blue!! " His paper had such a HUGE impact on his teacher,to the point that he called me up CRYING!!! --- uca79iii <bme1979@...> wrote: > In honor, lets celebrate by having members share > their success stories. > This is the main reason I started this group. Guest guest
I forgot to mention one little benefit from Xolair. In the year period prior to Xolair I was hospitalized numerous times, once the Dr said I was not going to make it. In the last year and one half I have not been hospitalized once, Thanks Xolair and happy birthday! Guest guest
Meagan, Thanks for your uplifting story! These are the kind of posts that make me smile. I hope in time you will gradually be able to kick the pred! So glad you are no longer in and out of the ER. Congratulations on your awesome " spiro " results! Meagan you have a great spirit its tough to have 'hardcore " asthma at this time of your life. Here is hoping the doctors continue to marvel at you! Take care, Laurie meagainbenny <bennetme@...> wrote: Hi, I began receiving Xolair in 5/05, and am seeing REALLY unbelieveable results. Guest guest
Laurie, Thanks for your reply. I am such a 'model' for Xolair that both my PCP and pulmo talk about me when they suggest trying Xolair to a patient. I am soooooo thankful for X and can thank it for letting me live a life that even 5 years ago I wouldn't be able to live!
