Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I am new around here. My name is and I started Xolair last week. I do have asthma, but it is pretty well controlled. What I do have is a lot of food allergies. So, my allergist put me on the drug with the hope of getting me off of zyrtec and to allow me to cheat a little on the whole food allergy thing. I've had food allergies since age 5, so I have a pretty good handle on when I can eat a certain food and when I can't. The first allergy test I had as a child was so bad they had to give me epi. How long does it typically take before a person will notice a difference? My insurance company approved Xolair right away and because I get the injection at the hospital, I do not have a co pay. My daughter has been on medications like Remicade at the hospital and she did not have a co pay eiher. Now that she is on Humira (another subcutaneous injection) she does that at home...her co pay is $10.00 for $1200.00 worth of medication. Regarding the discussion about latex in hospitals....I am a critical care nurse at a 477 bed hospital. We went latex free on our gloves this year. We used to have special " latex free " carts full of latex free suppies to have near the room of a latex allergic patient. We no longer need these carts, as the hospital has changed a majority of our patient care suppies to latex free as well. It's a big win for people with latex allergies. As a nurse, we used to have powered latex gloves. I remember when other nurses would shoot their gloves across the room like a rubber band...I would totally have an asthma attack. Many nurses who work in the field for a lot of years develop latex problems as a work related health hazzard.
