Guest guest
My name is Theresa. I have severe uncontrolled asthma. I take Zyflo 2 pills twice a day, QVAR 4 puffs twice a day, Tilade 4 puffs twice a day, allegra d once a day, nasal spray, foradil 2 times a day and I also take heart medicine for WPW. I also am now back on prednisone.... and taking breathing treatments. Anyway, my asthma is very out of control so today my dr. suggested Xolair which seems like a great idea to me...especially if it does what it says it does. Anyway, it has been very hard for me. I am a teacher and don't really have the time to slow down. Asthma makes me. I used to run 5Ks and now I use my inhaler just to walk from the car to my work (about 100 feet) I am hoping this is the ticket to my feeling better. Guest guest
: My heart goes out to you. I taught school for 17 years with asthma and was on prednisone five straight years before other drugs began to control somewhat my asthma. But even after that I usually had to take pred at least three or four times a year, and the four years before I started xolair at least I was down to pred two or three times a year. But for several of those years, I had to park in a lot at the bottom of a hill and walk up the hill to our school building. The only way I could make it was by walking slowly and using my inhaler a couple of times. So I understand....and I understand about not being able to slow down..... Even though I am retired from teaching full time, I still substitute and teach piano lessons two days a week. I still go pretty hard to be retired! And the xolair has helped immensely! Even though I still take a number of meds, I go most days without using my inhaler, and have had more energy overall. It is not a cure, but it has certainly helped me. I will also have to be honest and say there are still some days when I don't get a lot done, but I do keep on going......even though I feel a little draggy. I will also have to say (and others will say this, too) that it could take three to six months before you notice a difference and for some it has taken a year. Mine was so gradual that it was only in retrospect that I realized how much xolair was helping. I have been on it for a year and a half. No pred in two years and no infections or antibiotics in over two years. Adah Adah Theresa <tkaye25@...> wrote: My name is Theresa. I have severe uncontrolled asthma. Guest guest
Hi Theresa, I'm glad you are on the road to Xolair. Your story sounds similar to mine before I started Xolair. I had been on most of the same meds as you. I hope your doctor finds the Xolair treatment is right for you and you can start. It changed my quality of life and that is my hope for you too! I have been on X since 04/06/2007. Before X I had been on pred more on than off for almost 2 years. My response to X was very quick ,however, it is not how the average patient responds. I noticed significant results by my second shot. It can take up to 6 months for most and even a year for some. I have been off of the pred the whole time until 12/31/07 when I found I was allergic to all the mold spores that had congregated on my Christmas Tree by New Years Eve. Since that flare up I have tapered off the pred. I 'm not cured of Asthma I still take meds but, I am much improved and no longer need to use my nebulizer or rescue inhaler multiple times a day. Welcome to our group and I hope you find relief soon. It can be very discouraging to struggle doing routine tasks especially when you are used to being active. I was there too. My best to you for better breathing and stamina as you instill knowledge and life lessons into the hearts and minds of children. Laurie Theresa <tkaye25@...> wrote: My name is Theresa.
