Guest guest
Though I don't know for sure yet because the doctor wants to wait a few more months before he does anymore x-rays, but it looked like on my MRI that the head of the humerous is starting to flatten out. He asked me if I had been on steroids and I told him I was on prednisone for 3.5 years. He said that is what usually causes that problem. Right now he is removing the bone spurs from that shoulder and seeing how I do. That surgery should be in a few more weeks. If it is flattening I will need a total shoulder replacement. I already had my knee replaced (the worst pain I ever had) and I want to know how it compares to the knee. How bad is the pain? What is the recovery like? I know with my knee, at 6.5 weeks out, I am where most people are at week 12-14. My doctor is incredibly pleased. Also what is the PT like? What should I know before I have it done? Is it like the knee where it eventually wears out? I am only 51 and already had 13 surgeries and it looks like I am going to need between 4 (if I am lucky) to 8 (if I'm not) more surgeries. Thanks for any help. Robin
Guest guest
Robin I have both shoulders and hips replaced due to AVN/ON. I also got it from steroids. Pain started in 1989. Was dx in 1993. Had the hips replaced in 1997 and 1998 and had my first shoulder surgery in 2000, a total shoulder replacement. I was bone on bone by then. I got the xrays about once a year. One year I had bone " mice " and the next they were gone. I got the replacements when I was losing my range of motion. It was a great help to do the PT before the surgery. With the firt I had a " frozen " shoulder and PT was 9 months. I did bothe shoulders in PT and the second replacement was a breeze. 3 months and back to normal. Hips were easier than the shoulders. Don't know about the knees.
