KK's COBRA problems

KK, wow, what a miserable mess! If you made your 1st COBRA payment

within 45 days of being notified by your employer of your COBRA

eligibility, I hope you're fighting the quagmire tooth and nail

through, starting at the TOP of your former employer's HR department.

If you don't have your cashed checks showing that you made COBRA

payments to the employer, get them or copies right away from your

bank. If HR doesn't remedy the situation quickly, I would go right to

your state's department of insurance, or to the consumer complaints

division of your state's attorney general's office. Perhaps you've

already taken some or all of these steps.

If you are not already familiar with the detailed requirements for

employer COBRA notification and COBRA coverage, go to the following

U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services (DHHS) webpage -

http://www.cms.hhs.gov/COBRAContinuationofCov/

COBRA is part of the DHHS Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services

(CMS), so someone at the main # for Medicare (800-MEDICARE or 800-633-

4227) should also be able to connect you to someone appropriate or

find an appropriate phone # for you in the CMS directory.

GRRRRRR!!! As you just might be able to tell, I really feel for you

in your frustration and want you to be able to solve this SOON!!!

Please let us know how it all works out for you -

Fran
