Guest guest
The best I've been able to figure out, the retail cost of Xolair is SUPPOSED to be $600 per vial. So for those of us on the max dose (2.5 vials every two weeks, which means you have to get 3 vials), that's a retail cost of about $40K per year. NOW, in the 4 plus years I've been on Xolair, I've been on three different insurance plans but all were BCBS. I've had three or four different specialty pharmacies. At any rate, either BCBS is not allowing Xolair or the pharmacy to charge more than $550 per vial or those of you who are being charged more than $550-$600 per vial are getting charged too much or perhaps you have a smaller insurance plan that is not able to leverage the sort of volume discount BCBS can perhaps leverage. I don't think the specialty pharmacies are allowed to tack on additional fee, but I don't know. My understanding in 2003 was that the manufacturers of Xolair were contracting with specialty pharmacies directly, and not all specialty pharmacies at that. But things may have changed. I get my shots at home, so there's no service charge for the shot.
Guest guest
Before Christmas I was sent a letter that the cost of xolair for me would change and there was a possibility that I would owe some copay for each shot. Today I got a letter from MEDCO which stated that after reviewing my medical records for xolair that there would be NO CHANGE in the coverage for my shots through this next year. PRAISE GOD! Addy, I will still ask at my doctor's office about where some help might be for those who are struggling to get some financial help. It will be another two weeks before I go in for my next shot. On another subject. I think have mentioned that the doctor has spread out to six weeks for my shot (from four weeks.) About two weeks ago, we had very high mountain cedar and I had three days of sneezing and " dripping. " I was out of nose drops, and before I could get any, there was an emergency with my mom and I was tied up with business with my Mom's death, making arrangement, cleaning out her apartment......Needless to say, during that time, I did not have time to even think about how I felt. Finally I now have a respiratory infection....The first time in three years. I have still not used prednisone not an antibiotic, but today I am calling for help! I have used the nebulizer three times a day, w I am sure that part of this was caused by less xolair--or spread out.....Yes, I will talk to the xolair doctor about this! Hope all are doing well.... I came across this either earlier today or yesterday (days mesh together for me) Anyway, there is some useful info to help save money regarding medical costs. I found some ideas beneficial, some I already use, such as the Flex spending account. My wish to each and every one of you is to find something of use as well take care, breathe well B I thought it might be useful info for everyone > > if you find it beneficial for the group, I'd be delighted if you passed > it on > > thanks so much, > > B > > http://www.walletpo p.com/insurance/ simple-ways- to-slash- your-medical- > costs?photo= 2 & icid=200100397 x1217656340x1201 187540 Doug's note: I usually don't allow non xolair items but this one seems like it would benefit the group. It's rare that I do this LOL! Doug
Guest guest
Adah, I would imagine part of your current episode is also exacerbation from all that stress. The moderators have had a couple of off-group conversations (on-line) about this. We've noticed that we no longer get sick during stressful periods, but often experience an episode just as the stress subsides. We think that our adrenaline or something must kick in, protecting our sanity and immune system, but that after the stressful period the adrenaline level (or whatever it is) goes back to normal and our bodies are just so worn out that we get sick. I don't think any of us have googled for any science to back this up. I'm so sorry about your mom. At least you didn't have any trouble cleaning the apartment. God bless, and feel better.
