Guest guest
My dr. has suggested that I add Spiriva to all my other asthma meds. Questions: any side effects? When do you take it? Before/after inhaled steroid & foradil in the morning? She didn't tell me much about it. Has it helped anyone?
Guest guest
According to the instructions with my steroid inhaler, it should be the last thing I use when I medicate in the mornings. Here is my own regimen, but I would also suggest you ask the pharmacist who is familiar with all of the medication you take. I use Spiriva when I first get up. If my chest feels a little tight, I will start with my albuterol--neb if it is really bad (haven't used this in over two months) or my rescue inhaler. (Spiriva two to five minutes after the albuterol.) The wait another five minutes and use the steroid. That seems to work for me. No side effects that I can tell, except it does help open up the lungs. From what I read and from what my pulmo told me, the Spiriva helps preserve the undamaged parts of my lungs--don't know if that is true or not, but it sounds good! On another note--I just had my 12th xolair shot today and when JoAnn (my nurse) asked questions to evaluate whether or not it has helped, I had to say that my quality of life has greatly improved--not perfect yet, but it never will be because of some lung damage from years of asthma. I still have some symptoms from time to time, but I can now walk outside, work in the yard, go to the park with my granddaughter without any breathing problems. Before xolair, if I did any of these things, I had to make sure I was " medicated " before going outside! Have I been able to drop any of my regular meds yet? No, but neither have I had to take an antibiotic or prednisone in a year and a half. That preserves my bones and my mind! My lung function test today was just a little better than it has been as well! That's my good news for today! Happy breathing everyone.......Yea for xolair!
