Guest guest
I got off the steroids two weeks ago so I could get a flu shot, surprisingly I'm not in respiratory distress and am actually breathing quite well - maybe the Xolair is finally kicking in. It is so nice not to be sick to my stomach from the steroids and eating voraciously trying to numb the nausea (that never goes away) Someone just posted about being on Xolair for full body hives. My getting off the steroids I am a bumpy, blotchy, itchy mess. Always happens when I reduce the dose. Obviously the Xolair is not compensating. I see the allergist tomorrow for another dose of Xolair, I will also show him the hives - hope he has another suggestion besides steroids. Anyone else take anything for hives (benedryl is not bringing me much relief) ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Be a better pen pal. Pepcid and Zantac are H2 blockers. You could ask your doctor which one he likes better, and get the OTC stuff. If you do go the OTC route, watch the pill dosage. Some are 10mg (Pepcid) and 75mg (Zantac), so you have to double the dose. I think you can buy 20mgs Pepcid and 150mg Zantac, I just don't because I like splitting the smaller doses. Guest guest
saw the allergist yesterday about the hives, he did mention that the nexium that I am already taking would assist with suppression (and I think nexium is stronger than zantac or prilosec). I take it twice a day and I've fortunate my pulmonologist provides me samples. I was given was hydroxyzine 25 mg to take 1 or 2 tablets up to three times a day in addition to the benedryl. I was also given fluocinonide solution to apply to my skin - they said it was important not to put on any solution that had alcohol in it and to not take a lot of baths or showers. there are other things I could hve been given, but when I told them I was in the donut hole and would have to self pay prescriptions the next two months she was really good about working with me. Took hydroxyzine before I went to bed last night and had my first good night's sleep in over a week - how nice not to wake up every couple of hours and be so itchy you can't get back to sleep. It does make you drowsy and I really don't mind at bedtime. ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Be a better pen pal. Guest guest
I hate to disagree with your allergist but I'm surprised he/she thought that the Nexium would help with your hives. Zantac reduces stomach acid secretion by blocking a histamine receptor and so can also reduce allergic reactions but Nexium (and its close cousin, Prilosec) reduces stomach acid secretion in a totally different way that does not involve histamine receptors at all. I'm really glad that you finally got a good night's sleep but don't believe the Nexium is helping your hives - Fran > > saw the allergist yesterday about the hives, he did > mention that the nexium that I am already taking would > assist with suppression (and I think nexium is > stronger than zantac or prilosec). Guest guest
you're probably right, I saw the PA at my allergists. Last night it occurred to me that one of my 'itching' problems has always been around the elastic of my undergarments - both brassieres and the waist and legs of panties - could I be allergic to elastic? oh how that is going be difficult to work around. It's Sunday and I'm going to church and of course I'm wearing a bra and I'm sitting here trying to reach the middle of my back to scratch. I'm already using hypo allergenic detergent. I am latex sensitive and I can not have silicone nose pads on my eye glasses so I am predisposed to these kinds of sensitivities. ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Be a better pen pal. Guest guest
Elastic typically contains latex - it's what gives it stretchability. It's also possible to have pressure hypersensitivity - itching or even hives wherever anything presses on your skin. Poor you! Go to " messages " at the top left of the page, type in " weight gain " in the search box. Hope this helps Doug Group founder On xolair since 2003
Guest guest
I am one that did gain weight since I started the shots. I lost some when I started a strenous workout routine but when I slowed down I gained it all back. --- uca79iii <bme1979@...> wrote: > > > > > Has anyone else (particularly women in their mid- > to late-40s > > experienced a weight gain since beginning Xolair? > > > > I have gained about 15 lbs. since I began my > injections in June 2007. > > > > I've had the most amount of stress at home I've > ever endured in my > > life before, so I know that could be the chief > contributor. > > > > Just curious. Guest guest
Well, I'm not a woman but I can tell you that after 2 shots(2 months time) I've gained about 10 pounds. Not sure if its Xolair related though. > > Has anyone else (particularly women in their mid- to late-40s > experienced a weight gain since beginning Xolair? > > I have gained about 15 lbs. since I began my injections in June 2007. > > I've had the most amount of stress at home I've ever endured in my > life before, so I know that could be the chief contributor. > > Just curious. Guest guest
I began receiving these injections in June 2007 and I have gained 17 pounds.I dont usually gain that amount in such a short period of time.Xolair could posssibly be the cause.I wonder if there's any medical evidence to support this. garmel98 <garmelbon@...> wrote: Well, I'm not a woman but I can tell you that after 2 shots(2 months time) I've gained about 10 pounds. Guest guest
Yep, I've gained about 15 pounds in the 2 years I've been on Xolair. However, I'm still on steroids so that would account for the weight gain. To see previous discussions on the board about weight gain on Xolair, enter weight gain in the search box and the old messages will come up.
