The first two months I was on Xolair i had a horribile headache (like

a caffeine withdrawal/bad migraine type) that eased up after that.

I'd say it was something else except that due to insurance issues i

was off Xolair for a few months then started back and had the same

headache for about the first 6-8weeks. I've been on it now nonstop

every 2 weeks since August 2005 and haven't had problems since.

Hi, I had all those symptoms before I started my Xolair (450 mg every two

weeks). The sinus stuff and sore throats resulting from the drainage has

improved but does not go away - I have only been on Xolair since Feb 2007 and

some people say it can take a year or more on Xolair for significant

improvement. Even my doctor said mine might take a long time due to the fact

that my IgE levels were as high as 6,000. I keep antibiotics around at all

times. I must start them the second I get any sign of an infection because I

end up with pneumonia pretty easily. I hav'nt had any weight gain (in fact lost

20 pounds) but that was because my significant other died last Feb. of Cancer,

and I'm and not cooking for him any more. It could be due to improvements in

smell and taste since on Xolair. Because Xolair is derived from Chinese Hamster

- I did tell my doctor that I had an overwhelming desire to be on an exercise

wheel.

Subject: [ ] Possible Problems with Xolair

This is my first time posting.

I have been on Xolair since June 2007 with a dosage of 225mg every 2

weeks.

Prior to Xolair, my asthma was steroid-dependent in one form or

another for the last 26 years. It took awhile, but my breathing is

much improved. I don't need to use any form of steroids, or rescue

inhaler, or nebulizer.

However, here are some of the things I have been experiencing that I

am not sure whether they are due to Xolair or not:

.... Constant URI's (Upper Respiratory Infectiions

.... Constant Swollen gland (lymph nodes in my neck/throat area)

.... Sore throats

.... sinusitis

.... Weight gain

Because of all these symptoms, I have ended up being on more

antibiotics than I have been in these past 26 years. I am not getting

any information from my doctor (that is another issue but I am taking

measures to deal with that).

In the meantime ...

I have called Genentech several times and also spoke with the nurse at

my mail order pharmacy (Medco). I am not getting any confirmation as

to whether these symptoms are from the Xolair, or how I should proceed.

I am seriously considering taking a 'drug holiday' from Xolair to see

if I can determine whether these symptoms would go away. I am so

afraid to take the chance of worsening my breathing.

It wouldn't be a problem if the symptoms were mild, but they are

extremely disabling.

I would appreciate hearing if others had experienced any of these and

how they proceeded. Also, would like to hear if anyone has stopped

Xolair and how it affected them once they stopped.

Thank you.

Hi I have been receiving Xolair shots since Jan 2001 and had this problem from

the start. Having severe allergic asthma which has needed admission to hospital

and putting on life support on many occassions i figured that as Xolair has

meant that I dont go into hospital it is worth the discomfort.

If I have a full blown cold virus I put off the shots until it has past its

worse and that really helps. However as time has gone by it has improved so much

I barely notice it now.

My advice is to stick with it if on the balance of what you would be like

without it is a greater risk.

You dont die as far as I know from a sinus headache but you can from asthma.

Take care

Well said. I have noticed that I have had even fewer sinus headaches or

headaches of any kind since I started the xolair. Yes, I'll have a mild one if

I don't get enough rest, but sleep helps take care of that. I am taking far

less Acetameniphen or Ibuprofen for headaches since being on xolair--guess many

of my headaches were from allergies.

By the way I am assuming that if you have a sinus headache you take something

for it? Years ago my allergist told me to take tylenol sinus at the first even

hint of a sinus headache as it is easier to stop one from getting too bad than

it is to " heal " it after it has gotten really bad. I've tried to follow his

advice and it works. I have also had mild migraines, which I never have

now--must have been the stress from teaching!

My sinus headaches / allergic migraines / whatever you want to call

them occurred almost daily prior to Xolair. Now I might get one

every couple of weeks, if that often. Usually they occurr when I've

been doing heavy dusting or been exposed to mold. I still get

weather migraines. Too bad Xolair doesn't combat the barometer also.

I notice a slight sinus headache when the mold count is high, or I have been

around dust, too, but they don't bother me like they used to before xolair.

There are some side benefits from xolair that were probably not planned on.

Aren't we fortunate! We could also wish that everyone responded well to xolair,

but we also remember that everyone's makeup is very different and we all respond

differently.

MY FIRST TWO INJECTIONS OF XOLAIR WERE AWFUL!

Headachy, lethargic, I felt just awful. I said if

there was no improvement and I still felt this awful

at six months I would stop. I was committed to do it

at least six months (before I knew it would take a

year to see any real benefits).

After the third shot I was fine. I just had my eighth

injection last week. I have been on steroids since

1977, and 20mg has been my maintenance dose the past

two years. In February I was down to 5mg a day after

a bronchitis bout in January. This month I am

alternating 5mg every other day.

As long as you don't have any serious side effects, do

not give up so easily. Any regimen of treatment takes

time. This is something new being introduced to your

body, getting used to it will also take a little time.
