Guest guest
A Grossan's HydroPulse (nasal irrigator) is much, much easier to use than a neti pot. Completly effortless and no discomfot. It pulses at the same rate as the cilia in your sinuses, which are probably not functioning properly. This was developed by an ENT and is proven very effective against sinusitis. Costs about $80. Well worth the money. You can even use betadine and other anti-microbials in it to rid yourself of an infection. penny > > Hi Group,i'm so happy i found this group..first let me tell the > group...taking AFRIN NASAL SPRAY is not a good (at least for me)..at > the time i thought i was coming down with a bad cold, stuff up > nose..the more i use AFRIN..the more i got hook up ON it..rebound > concestion..the problem was worse then before i took afrin...I had to > see AN E.N.T. doctor..and was diagnosis with CHR ETHMOIDAL > SINUSITIS.Also had a CT XRAY....P.S. Guest guest
Hi Nick yanelli, tony kourlinis here-my good freind is nick prostakopoulos ( a greek dude with a prostate problem) Many people go for the surgery but come out very bad afterwards, more sick than before sometimes never fully heals.fully sick yeah?So be carefull whoever did the scan and told you you haven't got sinusitis is a dud. 96 % of cfs/fibro people have sinus ilness, what they call yours is not necessarily what it is.they make moustakes. tony > > > > Hi Group,i'm so happy i found this group..first let me tell the > > group...taking AFRIN NASAL SPRAY is not a good (at least for me)..at > > the time i thought i was coming down with a bad cold, stuff up > > nose..the more i use AFRIN..the more i got hook up ON it..rebound > > concestion..the problem was worse then before i took afrin...I had > to > > see AN E.N.T. doctor..and was diagnosis with CHR ETHMOIDAL > > SINUSITIS.Also had a CT XRAY....P.S. Guest guest
Hello ALL, I am attaching two articles. In one, bromelain does help - aliviate some symptoms. The real eye openings goes to the second article. Try to find the new one on medline for this year. I tried bromelain. It works but not for long in my case: I have Chronic sinusitis and CLL. So I ended up with the second one. It works wonders. But you have to see those doctors who practice this theory. arkady >From: " dumbaussie2000 " <dumbaussie2000@...> >Reply-infections >infections >Subject: [infections] Re: Sinusitis >Date: Fri, 25 Nov 2005 12:03:08 -0000 > > > > > >Hi Nick yanelli, tony kourlinis here-my good freind is nick > >prostakopoulos ( a greek dude with a prostate problem) > >Many people go for the surgery but come out very bad afterwards, > >more sick than before sometimes never fully heals.fully sick yeah?So > >be carefull whoever did the scan and told you you haven't got > >sinusitis is a dud. 96 % of cfs/fibro people have sinus ilness, what > >they call yours is not necessarily what it is.they make moustakes. > >tony > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi Group,i'm so happy i found this group..first let me tell the > > > > group...taking AFRIN NASAL SPRAY is not a good (at least for > >me)..at > > > > the time i thought i was coming down with a bad cold, stuff up > > > > nose..the more i use AFRIN..the more i got hook up ON > >it..rebound > > > > concestion..the problem was worse then before i took afrin...I > >had > > > to > > > > see AN E.N.T. doctor..and was diagnosis with CHR ETHMOIDAL > > > > SINUSITIS.Also had a CT XRAY....P.S. Guest guest
The Mayo clinic back in 1999 published a study concluding that fungi was the basic cause of chronic sinusitis, this study supports that ...i would try anti-fungals as a probe before any other treatment is contemplated.... Ihave more on the subjuct shout if you would like more info ... J Allergy Clin Immunol. 2003 May;111(5):1137-8; author reply 1138-40. Intranasal antifungal treatment in 51 patients with chronic rhinosinusitis. Ponikau JU, Sherris DA, Kita H, Kern EB. Department of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Mayo Clinic Rochester, Rochester, MN 55905, USA. BACKGROUND: Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is the most common chronic disease that is frequently refractory to treatment. OBJECTIVE: We sought to establish the safety and demonstrate the clinical efficacy of intranasal antifungal drug therapy in patients with CRS in a pilot trial. METHODS: A prospective open-label trial used amphotericin B as a medical treatment in 51 randomly selected patients with CRS. The antifungal agent was applied intranasally as 20 mL of a 100 microg/mL solution twice daily. The outcome was measured by using their symptoms and by using an endoscopic scoring system in all patients. In addition, pretreatment and posttreatment coronal computed tomographic scans of the nose and sinuses were available for evaluation in 13 patients. RESULTS: By using amphotericin B, improvement of sinusitis symptoms was observed in 38 (75%) of 51 patients. Endoscopically, 18 (35%) of 51 patients became disease free, and an additional 20 (39%) of 51 had improvement of at least one stage (P <.001). No effect was seen in 13 (25%) of 51 patients. The available computed tomographic scans before and after treatment demonstrated a significant reduction in the inflammatory mucosa thickening that had occluded the paranasal sinuses (P <.0001 in maxillary sinus). CONCLUSION: This open-label pilot trial demonstrates that direct mucoadministration of an antifungal drug appears to be both safe and effective in the treatment of patients with CRS. Therefore controlled and blinded trials are indicated to clarify the novel role of intranasal antifungal drugs in the treatment of CRS. Guest guest
Here's a good question to ask: Have I always had this anatomy? If yes, then how come I wasn't ALWAYS symptomatic????? Years ago when I had an infected wisdom tooth that probably came from a fracture (hairline) during a cleaning and nobody but nobody would believe it as it LOOKED fine! tho I kept saying, it FEELS funny, and I was in a lot of PAIN, one of the top ENT's at New York University said, you have a deviated septum and need surgery under general anesthesia etc, and THEN you will be out of pain! And so I said, I've had a deviated septum my whole life, so why would it bother me now? Remember, surgeons are in the business to do surgery and make $. I've not heard people getting better from these type of surgeries. If they have nasal polyps or something, yes. But not these anatomical types of surgeries. Guest guest
Jill, good answer from you..if not surgey,,how do i live with this?...being on nascort aq spray.is that the answer..using SUDAFED making things worse..one of the problem is not having good medical care, also by not going to the right ENT..many ent doctor's don't fully understand the problems...some doctors are good and some not as good.you have to be lucky to find the right doctor..just to toss meds is not the answer, its a fast fix for a few hours...sorry for boring...i'm looking into seeing another ent doctor,as the one im seeing (is like he couldn't not be bother)true big bucks with ent doctor's..thank god im cover,if not it would cost me alot of money...again let me note again, the biggest problem..NOT GOOD MEDICAL CARE,AND THE WRONG DOCTOR.Thanks again for your reply...Nick....jill1313 <jenbooks13@...> wrote: Here's a good question to ask:Have I always had this anatomy? If yes, then how come I wasn't ALWAYS symptomatic?????Years ago when I had an infected wisdom tooth that probably came from a fracture (hairline) during a cleaning and nobody but nobody would believe it as it LOOKED fine! tho I kept saying, it FEELS funny, and I was in a lot of PAIN, one of the top ENT's at New York University said, you have a deviated septum and need surgery under general anesthesia etc, and THEN you will be out of pain! Guest guest
Irrigation can clear acute bacterial sinusitis, but not chronic. Chronic sinusitis goes to the bone, therefore the bacteria cannot be washed away, but it can help alot along with abx. > > > > Hi Group,i'm so happy i found this group..first let me tell the > > group...taking AFRIN NASAL SPRAY is not a good (at least for me)..at > > the time i thought i was coming down with a bad cold, stuff up > > nose..the more i use AFRIN..the more i got hook up ON it..rebound > > concestion..the problem was worse then before i took afrin...I had > to > > see AN E.N.T. doctor..and was diagnosis with CHR ETHMOIDAL > > SINUSITIS.Also had a CT XRAY....P.S. Guest guest
That is so smart. I believe it goes more than to the bone it attacks the brain and half the head- but your explanation is unfortunately under recognised as the truer picture of ill health. tony > > > > > > Hi Group,i'm so happy i found this group..first let me tell the > > > group...taking AFRIN NASAL SPRAY is not a good (at least for > me)..at > > > the time i thought i was coming down with a bad cold, stuff up > > > nose..the more i use AFRIN..the more i got hook up ON > it..rebound > > > concestion..the problem was worse then before i took afrin...I > had > > to > > > see AN E.N.T. doctor..and was diagnosis with CHR ETHMOIDAL > > > SINUSITIS.Also had a CT XRAY....P.S. Guest guest
Dan, I couldn't agree more. And, there is a good chance that surgery will spread the disease around real good. Guest guest
Tony, Just trying to add a little " earned " horse sense to the conversation. PS. I actually once stuck a Water Pik up both nostrils in an attempt to clean out my {surgically opened) sinuses and try to hit what I could swear was an abcess (pus pocket) at my left maxillary (oversized) ostium. It hurt when I hit the spot, but nothing came out. I once had uptake with a nuclear scan in that spot, so something is going on under the skin. I think I got it pretty good taking megadoses of flagyl, as the local pain was intense. Be wary of an itchy surgeon. I had NO sinus disease prior to surgery. CFS came months later. > > > > > > > > Hi Group,i'm so happy i found this group..first let me tell > the > > > > group...taking AFRIN NASAL SPRAY is not a good (at least for > > me)..at > > > > the time i thought i was coming down with a bad cold, stuff up > > > > nose..the more i use AFRIN..the more i got hook up ON > > it..rebound > > > > concestion..the problem was worse then before i took afrin...I > > had > > > to > > > > see AN E.N.T. doctor..and was diagnosis with CHR ETHMOIDAL > > > > SINUSITIS.Also had a CT XRAY....P.S. Guest guest
Hello All, I attribute it to Xolair (I'm pretty sure it is), but I used to have what seemed like 1 continuous sinus infection for months(and sometimes it dripped and caused pneumonias it was not fun) but the past 2 years I've had just 1 sinus infection (yay!). I currently have a sinus infection and I'm hoping treatment was initiated early enough so it doesn't cause my asthma to flare. I was set to see my pulmo/allergist on 2/12 for the first time since the end of November (I had been doing so well) and was feeling like I had 2 black eyes b/c my sinuses were so inflamed, but figured that I didn't need to go to my PCP since I really started to feel bad on 2/2, and I was going to see my pulmo so soon. I should know by now after living in NY for over 20 years that the weather in November - March can be a bit odd. So I didn't end up going to my doctor on 2/12 due to a snow/ice storm (it was just impossible to drive). I called my pulmo and THANK GOD (I really thought my head was going to explode) he knows I know what a sinus infection feels like and prescribed antibiotics over the phone (I finished on the phone with him and was going around telling the people in my house " I LOVE Dr. Marcus! " ). I was able to see my pulmo this past Tuesday (2/19) and he was amazed that even after a week of antibiotics I'm still apparently quite inflamed/infected, even though I feel much better. My doctor is REALLY trying to keep this from causing problems with my lungs, so he wants me on a 21 day course of Vantin (which is apparently a very obscure antibiotic which my pharmacy has to stock now because of me). Overall it turned out well though because my doctor knew I knew what I was talking about when I told him over the phone " I have a sinus infection " and called in the Vantin for me. Its funny, he said when I saw him this week " you made the correct diagnosis Meg! " (like it was some sick test). Really though one 3-4 week sinus infection/year as opposed to like two 3-4 month sinus infections/year is SUCH an improvement. Just a little tip I figured out in the throws of this sinus infection, pressing your face up against a cold window really feels good, it looks very odd but it numbs your face. In any event, I'm feeling much better now and really see what Xolair is doing for me. Meagan
Guest guest
Hi: I've had asthma and sinus problems all my life.. It sounds like you need an ent doctor.. Guest guest
Hi, Thank you all for your kind words. I do see an ENT but think I'm going to have to switch - he's absolutely convinced that 'chronic sinusitis' = 'do not treat'. Whereas my pulmo/allergist I've been seeing longer and he knows what happens if I'm not treated (I end up with a pneumonia), so I figured to go without a fight and just call my pulmo/allergist. Guest guest
My mother-in-law told me, when she used to get sinus infections back in college, she put her face against the cold window on the bus and discovered the vibrations of the bus helped break things up. Making recovery much quicker. I don't recommend touching anything on public transit! But the vibration thing really seems to work. I have a pen with a vibrating tip [novelty item from Restoration Hardware-Not what you're thinking!] that really works well. Anything with a small enough end to put against the edge of your cheek bone, brow, or nose [that tickles!] would work. You can even try pressing with your thumb and jiggling your hand really fast. Or using the back of an electric toothbrush. I know it sounds silly, but it works. ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Looking for last minute shopping deals?
