Guest guest
All my life, I have had people say that it is all in my head, I am just trying to get attention or pity or to just " shake it off. " I wish just for once some of these people could experience what it is like to NOT BE ABLE TO BREATHE!!! I had a Jr. High Coach in 1969 that would NOT let me call my mother to bring me my inhaler. I had been doing laps in the hot September heat. He said I was faking to get out of running with the other boys, gave me 2 swats with the paddle and made me go back to running. " If you are sick, you will get a doctors excuse and don't go running to the nurse, I'll her you are faking too. " Can you believe the gall of some of these people?? If I had passed out and been taken to the hospital, maybe just maybe, he might have changed his tune. We didn't have cell phones back then, only the phone in the school office that was off limits. I would have called my mom in a heartbeat. The next day, we had a doctors excuse. That coach was furious but could do nothing. I could go on and on about this coach and my 1969 9th grade gym class horrors but this is not the place. I did see him again in 1978 when I was in college doing my practice teaching. He denied that it ever happened. If figures! Another day in the life of an asthmatic, Doug Group founder
