I don't know how picky your bus will be, but after I showed them my large list of medications (including xolair) they said " not a problem. " I then told then about my cornea transplants in 1980 and 1982 and they said no. This is funny because they let me give in 1998. Guess they have changed the rules a bit since then. I don't think you will have any problems. Doug Group founder
Guest guest
last time i tried to donate, they were not bothered at all from teh xolair, but b/c i had used my albuterol more than twice in 24 hours, they considered me not stable and kicked my butt to the curb. prior to that, i was in the midst of a flare (although no pred - i was rebelling) and since i had no obvious signs of infection, they took my blood. i guess it depends on the mood of the tech. good luck - and great job on donating blood! heather > > > > Can we donate blood if we get Xolair shots? Guest guest
Yes you can. You have to disclose all medications taken when you donate. It may even help the person who receives it. pat --------------------------------- Looking for last minute shopping deals? Find them fast with Search. Guest guest
I don't know the answer to that. My best eucated guess is that although it's not a human blood product of course, in which case blood donation would not be allowed, but there may be a restriction due to the fact that it's an antibody to human antibodies and only folks who choose to be treated with Xolair should be exposed to it. As we all know, it's not completely risk-free. Please let us know what they tell you at the donation site! Fran > > Can we donate blood if we get Xolair shots? Guest guest
I'm going to take a guess that the reason why you were disqualified because of cornea transplants is they have no way to know anything about THAT donor. My mother died from gangrene in her stomach from a second aneurism (she had surgery five days before for the first aneurism). When they told me she was minutes away from death my response was to offer her for organ donation. It was politely declined because of the gangrene, and I questioned " what about the eyes? " They were unsure but didn't think so. Another facility might have assumed the eyes would be unaffected and transplanted them. That is my guess why you weren't allowed to donate blood because of the unknown history of who was kind enough to donate their corneas to you (I use the term unknown lightly, I'm sure there is record but that information was not readily available at the time you were trying to donate blood). ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____

In 1996, they did not have any problems with that and let me donate blood. In 2006 they said no. They changed the rules in those 10 years. I am a board member of the state eye bank and through the years, they have become even quite a bit more picky about all transplant tissues. Sorry, I am getting off topic here and am going back to Xolair, asthma and allergies on my next post. Here I am the group co/owner and moderator and I am breaking protocol. sigh!
