No wonder you are hurting. My doctor won't let me have ANY other shots at all unless it has been 3 days before or after my xolair. Also, my PCP will NOT administer the shots. I asked when my insurance and the allergist's parent medical group were at odds and I had to pay for almost all my shot administration. As for the pain.... I have been on Xolair over 4 years, 2 shots every other Friday. I have never had any pain whatsoever. Allergy shots usually do a number on me. Pain and some swelling almost every time. When I was 5 years old, I had a severe reaction to a REGULAR allergy shot and was taken to the hospital right from the doctor's office....... yet,now I am NOT required to have my EPI Pen's handy when I come in for my regular shots. I AM required to bring my epi's for the xolair. Wierd! Going for my REGULAR allergy shot tomorrow and some pain. Xolair NEXT Friday and NO pain. We are all different. Some people have pain, others of us don't. OOPS,I almost forgot. Yes, there WILL be pain with the xolair..... IN MY WALLET LOL! Guest guest
Meagan, I have two X shots in the same arm. Because I can't have injections in my right arm. I was due for a flu shot and could have had them at the same time. I opted to have it the next day. take care, Laurie meagainbenny <bennetme@...> wrote: Hi Everyone, I receive my Xolair at my PCP's office, and about a month ago when I had my yearly physical my doctor mentioned that I was due for 3 vaccinations, but she wasn't sure if they would be OK with my Xolair, the steroids I'm on and all the other meds I take, so she had me clear it with my pulmo/allergist. I have come up with a theory as to why my Xolair injection sites hurt so much more and I have no idea if this is how things work but, my theory is that my immune system has prioritized and is dealing with the vaccines (which hardly hurt at all) and has basically kept the Xolair in it's initial place and has not 'dealt with' the Xolair yet. I have no idea if this is how the immune system actually works but it certainly sounds plausible to me. I was just wondering has any one else received other shots at the same time as Xolair (I was thinking about it and I haven't even had my flu vaccine at the same time as X)? Guest guest
I received the flu shot and the pneumovax all in the same day and it felt as though the Xolair didn't work at all for those 2 weeks. It could have been a coincidence but I wont get all three at the same time again. I will be doing the flu and Xolair at the same time at the end of the month. Fingers crossed....it won't make a difference. meagainbenny <bennetme@...> wrote: Hi Everyone, I receive my Xolair at my PCP's office, and about a month ago when I had my yearly physical my doctor mentioned that I was due for 3 vaccinations, but she wasn't sure if they would be OK with my Xolair, the steroids I'm on and all the other meds I take, so she had me clear it with my pulmo/allergist. Guest guest
I had the pneumovax ONCE and will NEVER get it again! I had a severe reaction to it. Two hours after the shot the injection site was swollen to the size of a soft ball!! My doctor told me to take an extra 60 mg of Evil candy to help reduce the inflammation. 24 hours after, I was in the ER due to going into anaphalctic shock. I ended up being intubated and on a ventilator for a week because I suffered respiratory failure!! I went on Xolair 2 months after that incident. That was 2 1/3 years ago! --- McLaughlin <gmclaughlin1000@...> wrote: > I received the flu shot and the pneumovax all in the > same day and it felt as though the Xolair didn't > work at all for those 2 weeks. Guest guest
What a scary experience! However, just so everyone else knows, a large local reaction to Pneumovax is common but such severe reactions are rare. This vaccine saves many lives in older folks and anyone with chronic lung disease. It prevents the most common type of bacterial pneumonia. I was scared to death 4 years ago when I got my first Xolair shots. About 26 years ago, I was taken to the ER with severe Gastroenteritis. They gave me a shot of Phenegrin in both hips, and IV and THEN, a Pain shot. The next day, my hips were swolen and in such pain, I could not roll over in the bed or walk. I asked the nurse: " Can I have a pain shot for the pain shots? " Since I have had plenty of pain with shots all my life, I was very apprehensive when I got my first Xolair shots. This was a brand new medicine just approved by the FDA. I gritted my teeth to prepare for some big time pain, but there was none at all. Also, I was scared of the medicine itself. I knew the results of the FDA trials but was I a guinea pig? What about side effects? Were my hands going to turn purple and fall off? Would I get relief after the shot? What about other medications I was taking? Would they interfere? I had all the same concerns that everyone in the group has talked about too. I did well Hope this posts helps those of you who are new to Xolair Happy breathing, Doug Group founder

Guest guest
Thanks for your replies everyone. The pain is definitely subsided now, (thank God I was popping Advil like they were going out of style for a couple days). The pain is something I'll definitely mention to my PCP next time its just funny I hadn't had a reaction like that before. As an aside, I get the flu shot every year but my pulmo doesn't have me get Pneumovax though and I'm not quite sure why but I'll ask him. Thanks, Meagan > > > > I had the pneumovax ONCE and will NEVER get it again! > > > > > > I had a severe reaction to it.
