Guest guest
, were you taking abx when you got the wb test? From what I understand all lyme tests will come back negitive if you are on abx or were on them up to 2 weeks before. to be positive if you have lyme I suggest the LUAT test from IGENEX it will tell you even if you are on abx. Guest guest
Janelle: I am taking Celebrex - it works well but it makes me VERY sleepy and I know a lot of people who have experienced stomach upset from it. I only take it at night so that I can sleep. During the day I tolerate the pain or take advil. Sometimes the pain gets so bad I miss work - then I do take the celebrex during the day. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Well Janelle .. I keep clubbing my feet on things... I have broken my little toe 3 times in the last 6 months... So, all of that additional pain, I ask him for some kind of pain pills. The first kind he gave me caused me to have horrible head aches. I did not take them. The next time I saw him I told him I needed something stronger. He said NO. I ask why. He said he would be affaid that I would get hooked on them... I laughed in his face and told him that he was being rediculous. Cause I have a termanial disease and I am in misery... I need some kind of relief from this pain... He told me that this Vicoden would cause constipation and is hard on the liver to process. I told him that I did not care cause the pain at this time is far to overwhelming. My quality of life was horrible. He wrote the prescription.... Guest guest
Hi Dixie. Ouch! Good for you for insisting that your dr. give you something. The quality/quantity of life issue is one all of us seem to have to decide on a daily basis. Any guesses why you kept bonking your feet? Mine have gone partially numb thanks to the pred. and I'm definitely clumsier these days. Guest guest
Dear Friends, It broke my heart when I read about . I hadn't read my mail for a few days and was really shocked to hear about her death. One of my best friends lost her 17 year old daughter in May in an auto accident and I am still grieving for her. All of the images are still fresh in my mind from her funeral and it is easy to imagine how it was with . What a tragedy for these families. I do know that this kind of stress is hard on people like us who have medical problems. My asthma started acting up along with the colitis. I sometimes wonder if we don't deal with stress like other people do. I know that I tend to keep things inside. Well, thanks for listening, you are a great bunch of compassionate people. I would look forward to the chance of meeting you all, so count me in for a convention. My daughter, , had her 16th birthday this week and will be driving soon. I guess there is always something for us to worry about! HA Love to you all, Jane Totten AIH

Guest guest
Dixie, I've been taking 1 to 2 Vicoden daily for several months. I couldn't function without them. My Hepatologist told me that he " never " prescribes Vicoden for anyone, but when I later saw a Rheumatologist who went to med school with him and who knows him personally, she said, " nonesense. " She said that research has shown that people in chronic pain rarely become addicted to pain medications and they would have become addicted to something anyhow (like alcohol or whatever). She also said that she does not believe that a patient should suffer. She wrote me a prescription for 60 per month. I then told my Hepatologist that I am taink Vicoden and I told him who wrote the prescription. He didn't object or argue at all. How could he? He did tell me that up to two a day would NOT increase the liver damage I already have. And, I have yet to have a problem with constipation from taking Vicoden. One thing I've noticed is that I can actually feel a wave of pain relief when the Vicoden takes effect. It's like a miracle drug for me. In the past, I've rarely taken pain meds, even after dental work or following surgery since I'm not usually troubled by pain and don't like the feeling of being " high " . I wonder if it's more effective because of the condition of our livers, just like alcoholics feel the effect of booze more extremely than people who haven't abused the stuff? Guest guest
Dixie, In our society, we have a thing about equating pain relief with " vice " as though if something makes you feel better, it must be somehow evil. Incredibly, doctors are among the worst about having that prejudice. It's 3:00 AM and I just took my 2nd. Vicoden today after several hours of increasing pain. I don't feel even slightly guilty about it. My husband's neurosurgeon who is also involved with a major pain control clinic that does studies, has given him Vicoden, up to 6 per day, since last September and his emphasis is pain prevention. Once the pain cycle starts, it's hard to break. Medication that keeps it from taking over will actually result in less medication over the long haul. Incidentally, Bob is far from " hooked " on the stuff. Some days he only takes one Vicoden, yet he has serious and totally disabling back pain. Take care, Geri
Guest guest
Janelle, I am one of the unlucky ones that has continual pain. My doctor came to the conclusion long before me that I need constant pain relief just so I could have some quality of life. You need to tell YOUR doctor that. You want quality of life. It is hard enough to cope with this disease let alone the pain that some of us suffer. Be strong about it and you can get through the day a lot easier. Guest guest
Me three! I found out today I have to wait 3 weeks to see the rheumatologist, and there's no way I can wait that long to get pain meds. So I called my dr., and despite some reluctance on his part, he agreed to give me the big V. I still have to pick it up, but I'm looking forward to some relief (I was almost in tears when I thought I had missed him for the weekend). However, I had my son call me when he left and arrived for about the first week and a half and the fear kinda subsides. My younger son told me that he drives a lot better without me or my husband in the car because we make him nervous. good luck, Anita G

The old farm is about 1 1/2 mile off the main highway. So I asked if she would l.ike to drive. So were about a mile down the dirt road and she says here. So we switch places and I told what to shift to and the brakes and gas.. And also stay in the middle of the road. Not too bad. She got nervous when the big hill came and and the down side is a corner with an old garage on it. She took the corner a little wide but missed the garage. Parked in the middle of the yard.. She decided to drive out to the road and she had me turn the car around. She only had 40 acres to turn on but I did it for her. Then she gets in the driver seat and she puts her seat belt on and started pressing on the gas but nothing happened. I was sitting the laughing because she didn't shift the car into gear. But all in all it was not really too bad for the first time out with a chronically ill person. Sue AIH Wisconsin
Guest guest
My son Tyler takes celebrex 2x daily and also enbrel 9 which is an injection) he also takes cyclosporin, trentenol, and some others....He takes these mostly for his Rhuematoid Arthritis... for at least a year before his PSC and AIH were diagnosed...Last year he was on home bound from school because of the pain and he couldn't walk...There were times that he could use a cane or crutches but his wrist were so bad with pain that even that became impossible...If you have seen any of my other posts you will see that Ty is doing much better....I hope they find the right combo of meds for you also.... Guest guest
Luanne, I'm seriously lost when it comes to email and this list! What's made the big difference in Ty's condition? Is this the most improvement he's seen or does he have ups and downs? He has so much to deal with. It just isn't fair for a kid to have to go through so much. My mother used to tell us (me and my brothers) when we were having major physical and/or emotional troubles, " If I could do it for you, I would. " She meant it from the bottom of her heart and I know how it must be for you, to see your child living with these medical ordeals. It's funny, I can take almost anything for myself but I can't stand to see my children or anyone that I love, suffer. For that matter, I don't do well when I see anyone suffer. I wish I could handle these things better, but I've always been this way. Take care, Geri
