My co- worker who also has asthma is not coming to work and is probably in the hospital, his springtime ritual. Prior years this time of year I was taking prednisone to maintain a normal life. I'm aApproaching my second year on Xolair. I sneezed twice today. Feeling just fine, I've been working outside doing spring yard cleanup, mowing the lawan etc. No Prednisone. No hay fever. No albuterol. No panic calls to the doctor over asthma attacks. Life is good! To be fair, I'm also taking Advair, Spiriva, loratidine and Uniphyl but I was taking these or similar meds before Xolair and still had my head handed to me in the spring pollen season. The Advair and Spiriva help me deal with ashtma attacks due to irritants. I take the lorantidine only because it's cheap and an antihistamine was part of my old dialy routine. If it wasn't so cheap I would drop antihistamines. I take the Uniphyl also for irritants and because it helps keep me from falling asleep at work. I'm a hard person to convince but this far into the spring pollen season and living the good life is making me a believer that not making Xolair available and affordable to anyone that needs it is just wrong. I say that with the recognition that this new and powerful genetic- engineered medication is for the pioneers at heart. That means most Americans. That's our culture ... fear not the unknown! Fortunately for me much braver people than I wore a path for others to walk.
Guest guest
Hi group. I'm a new member. My name is Liz and I'm Australian, living in Perth on the west coast. Perth is renowned for being bad for asthmatics, so why am I here, you might ask? Because my daughter and grandson are here and life's not worth living without them near. My specialist is thinking of trying me out on Xolair. I have chronic severe asthma and bronchiectasis and am currently using all the meds that you guys mention (but some with different names) including varying dosages of prednisone. The climate in Perth is very extreme. We're on the coast but also the edge of the desert and we get those high altitude electrical storms that turn the dust from the desert into minute particles that apparently irritate the lungs. My asthma is out of control and together with the bronchiectasis making my life miserable. That's my story and I was interested to hear about people who have been using Xolair, to see if it might help me. Liz Get the name you always wanted with the new y7mail email address. www.7.com.au/y7mail

Guest guest
Hi Liz, Welcome to the group! I've only been on Xolair for a month so I can't speak to its effectiveness yet, but there have been plenty of days where I'll be driving home after work and see people outdoors riding bikes, fishing, etc. and it's so frustrating to know that just a few minutes outdoors is enough to trigger symptoms that will have me itching, sneezing and wheezing for the next 12 hours. I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to visit Australia in college as part of a jazz choir, and we spent 10 days in Sidney and Brisbane. Beautiful, friendly country-- you're a most welcome addition to this group. > > Hi group. I'm a new member. My name is Liz and I'm > Australian, living in Perth on the west coast. Concert choir, Christmas madrigal dinners, opera, musicals, I was in them all. Very, very, very little asthma during that time in my life. I used an inhaler about 2 times in 4 years. Now? If it were not for Xolair, I would really be in trouble. Doug Group founder
