I told him to have her sleep with a clove of garlic "up there" at night every night until hit goes away.

A garlic clove can be very very irritating when applied directly to sensitive mucous membranes, especially when left there for a period of time. Not only does it usually burn like crazy, it can actually burn a hole into the affected part. There is a formula for a yeast/water douche that is said to be very effective:

Put 5 cloves of garlic in a blender. Whip with one quart of warm water. Strain through a paper towel. Douche with this 3 times a day for 3 days, making up a new batch each time. If it burns too much, dilute it more.

The pain went away after appx 10 minutes and boy did it kick my cold's arse! Next time I'll mix it in something so it's not just tummy vs garlic.

Yes! I don't especially like the taste of raw garlic (yet) so when I first started taking it for colds and things I'd cut it in little bitty pieces and swallow it. I think I still stank, it just took longer and wasnt' as strong.

You know what I’ve heard – that you can cut up the garlic cloves into sizes that are easy to swallow, then just swallow them with water, and the article said that you won’t stink – not even your breath! I’ve not tried that – has anyone else?

Which reminds me:

A few days ago my brother called me and said he'd asked my mom something and she referred him to me (what a shock that was).

His girlfriend has what he thinks is a yeast infection and he asked me what to do. I told him to have her sleep with a clove of garlic "up there" at night every night until hit goes away.

I've never had any type of female problems so I dont' know if that will work!?!? And if it doesn't, any other suggestions I could make??? I'm very happy they decided to take the natural route and wish I knew more about this type of thing.

Well, there are other "avenues" for taking it that don't involve swallowing it.

So it should be diluted, I'll remember that!!!

Yes. In a sensitive area like that it should be diluted. I know from years of having serious bouts with Candida (yeast overgrowth), it is a 2-fold process. First you have to kill the yeast using anti-fungals like garlic, caprylic acid, grapefruitseed extract, etc., and then you restore the "good" bacteria with yogurt or acidopholus. If this person has an ongoing or resistant infection, she should probably try both douches..first garlic water for a few days then yogurt for a few. It's also a good idea to take an antifungal and plain (not flavored) yogurt orally, but not both at the same time. Wait a few hours between them.

Hi,

I've heard that it's the chewing of the garlic that releases the allicin(sp) so if you just swallow it you're not getting any benefits. You'll notice the more you chew the "hotter" it gets.

We did that while I was in prison, since the only medical care we had available is more criminal than what we did to be there.
