Guest guest
My dad had it, my grandfather had it, my 1st cousin on my dad's side has it, my niece has it but NEVER as bad as me. No such thing as xolair back then. My dad said that he used some kind of asthma powder that he lit and breathed in the smoke. When I was a kid, he used a product called " Asthma Nefrin " with a little pipe with a squeeze bulb at the bottom. As the commercial used to say........ " We've come a long way baby. Guest guest
My sister had asthma as a child and up until she graduated from college, the medicine she used was a tablet called tedral, and Asthma Nefrin in a nebulizer with the bulb at the end. I hated that medicine as everything it touched turned brown. I wouldn't let her wear my clothers for fear of her spilling the med on my clothes. As she got older, she really was more careful. She took allergy shots from an early age and then as she got older, there were other meds and she took a lot of prednisone. medral (sp?) was a med used on her when her lungs collapsed during surgery. The med was very hard on her heart. She was in the hospital several times with severe pneumonia. Xolair would have been a God-send for her, but she died in 1985--her heart simply could no longer stand the strain of the meds she was taking. but she lived a full life in her 45 years! She was an elementary counselor, married and had two children. Her daughter has mild asthma and her granddaughter has asthma. Just my story. Oh, our mother has asthma, too, and her father had severe allergies--don't know about the asthma although i suspect he probably was never diagnosed with it.
