Others outside this group many have. You might want to ask your doctor and get his/her opinin. I have had 120 xolair shots since 2003 and never had any problems at all. Guest guest
I've had repetitive infections since I started - various kinds of infections, although most have been sinus infections. Seems like I get about one a month. I'm planning to go to Duke's immunology department to see if they can get a handle on it. Since beginning Xolair, I've been blessed with about 35 antibiotic prescriptions, expensive cefepime infusion and three hospitalizations. I'm beginning to wonder. ----- Original Message ----- From: shirl.halpern Sent: Wednesday, July 02, 2008 7:23 PM Subject: [ ] Very few have responded to my questions. Guest guest
I occasionally have a sore throat but I don't think it is related to xolair since a sore throat is one of the side effects of some of the other meds I take. I have not had any upper respiratory infections, nor a severe sore throat since Jan. 2006 and I started xolair July 2006. I have not had to take prednisone since Jan. 2006. I apologize for not answering your earlier email, but since I had not had any reaction after the xolair shots, I didn't respond. I did have a bout with sinusitis this spring, but the pollen counts were very high. However, it did NOT turn into an infection. The doc put me on zyrtec for two weeks, and that took care of the drippy nose. (He also had me use Nasonex and Astelin twice each day for those two weeks.) The drippy nose was definitely not in connection with my xolair shot. I hope you can get some help. Adah From: shirl.halpern <shirl.halpern@...> Subject: [ ] Very few have responded to my questions. Guest guest
Again, per the Xolair (Genentech) page website, these were the Xolair side effects noted that might be relevant to you: " viral infections (23%), upper respiratory tract infection (20%), sinusitis (16%), headache (15%), and pharyngitis (11%). These events were observed at similar rates in Xolair-treated patients and control patients. " There could be something going on that has nothing to do w/Xolair or there could be something about Xolair that is part of the problem. Definitely follow-up on it with your doctors. --- In , " Terry " <onabeach@...> wrote: > > I've had repetitive infections since I started - various kinds of infections, although most have been sinus infections. Guest guest
Perhaps lowering your dose of xolair might help. So that you still have the xolair, but it doesnt' cause so many infections. Guest guest
Adah - I never thunk of it that way. I get the shots twice a month and an infection about once a month, it seems, but there's no timing correlation I can think of. Usually, I associate the infections with a cold, and some into morph into another. It's weird. But I have the joy of having a lot of CT scans. ----- Original Message ----- From: Adah Voigt Sent: Wednesday, July 02, 2008 11:48 PM Subject: Re: [ ] Very few have responded to my questions. Guest guest
I was just curious. I have only had one brain ct scan and that was about 9 years ago when I had a TIA. I had been having lung ct scans every six months for the last two years because of a spot the doc was watching but it never changed in any way, so I don't have to go through those anymore. I really do hope the docs at Duke can determine how to help you.... Have a wonderful Fourth! Adah From: Terry <onabeachcharter (DOT) net> Subject: Re: [ ] Very few have responded to my questions. Guest guest
Shirl, Sorry I missed your first post to this question. When I started Xolair I noticed I got upper resp infection MUCH more frequently than when I was not taking X. I asked my Doc and he said he wasn't aware of that being a side effect but it easily could be. For me though, it was a tolerable side effect and wouldn't convince me to discontinue the X. Guest guest
They seem to have slowed down but I still get typical winter infections. This past winter I caught a dreadful one that was easily the worst bug I've had since I had strep when I was a kid. Fortunately, it responded to the meds and I was on the mend in just a couple of days. Many other people I knew caught this bug too so I don't think it was the Xolair.
