Guest guest
I was prescribed and am taking xolair shots for allergic asthma. I am not steroid dependent. My doctor is having me get the shots because my allergic asthma is not under great control with inhalers and meds. like singulair. I never received immunotherapy either. As far as off label, I have been trying to get it approved for my daughter's allergic eczema(atopic derm.) with resistance. Hope this helps. jean ---- pyle456 <jamcculloch2@...> wrote: > is that it is currently only approved for folks with moderate to > severe allergic asthma who are steroid dependent or for whom more > traditional treatments (e.g., immunotherapy) don't work. Guest guest
I wasn't on oral steroids daily, but took inhaled oral and nasal steroid sprays every day, plus claritin, benedryl, sudafed, astelin, and occasionally hydroxyzine on top of everything and still had symptoms of allergic asthma. I'd tried immunotherapy twice--the first time for 3 1/2 years with no improvement; the second time I didn't even make it up to a maintenance dose before I had an anaphylactic reaction to a shot increase and decided it wasn't worth the risk trying them again. But I really needed treatment because when I was tested, I came back positive for every environmental allergen (trees, pollen, etc.) with the exception of molds, and had over a dozen food allergies. With this history, I was able to qualify for Xolair, but only because I had completely exhausted all other possible options short of being on daily prednisone. > > is that it is currently only approved for folks with moderate to > > severe allergic asthma who are steroid dependent or for whom more > > traditional treatments (e.g., immunotherapy) don't work.
