Guest guest
Hi, This just recently happened to me as well. As a matter of fact, it has only happened in the past week. I have been on Xolair for 5 years and about a month ago Curascript tried to send my medication to my house via UPS (instead of the usual FEDEX). We require a signature when it arrives and they told us the shipment would be there sometime around 3. The shipment never came and we went out to dinner. Supposedly we must have missed the shipment and they decided to deliver the medication the next day at 5. This would have been fine except is was extremely hot out and the not only was the medicine hot inside the box so were the ice packs. So after a few days of arguing with the insurance company, we were told that a new shipment would be sent to us. Now this week, we were told that I could no longer receive it at home and this was due to the FDA regulations. We called the FDA and nothing new had occurred. So we called curascript back and they told us it was Genetech. Called genetech and they told us because we werent available for the shipment we had to pick it up at the hospital now. Anyways, what Im trying to inform you of is that you dont have to receive the injections at the doctor office, if you are already self-injecting at home, you just have to pick up the prescription at the hospital. No idea why they changed the policy and it sucks but at least its not as bad as getting the medicine at the doctors office. So you would just have to pick up the medicine at some point from your doctor. Hope this helps you, --- In , " SD Designer " <instdesgn1@...> wrote: > > I just tried to order another month's supply of Xolair shipped to my home as I have been for 15 months when I was sorely informed by CuraScript [ never a favorite) that Genentech will not allow them to ship to the patient. Of course I cannot spend 5 hrs and $90 every 2 weeks going to med center. Just exactly who are these abherrent beaurocrats who are trying to usurp my doc's plan for me??? Not even govt to blame !!! No concern for patient care, rather they cover their rear as they hawk the talk. Time to write letters.... Will hear more from my doc in a week. >
Guest guest
OK, I had something different happen this time. Accredo Novafactor will ship my Xolair to me, but they wanted me to talk with a pharmacist about the black box warning. I said, " The black box warning came out in February 2007 and this is the first time you're wanting me to speak with a pharmacist. What gives? " They placed the order b/c a pharmacist wasn't available, but I'm going to call today and confirm shipment. Accredo Novafactor started using Fed Ex instead of UPS sometime last year. I didn't know it and Fed Ex took my box back to the local station. I was going out of town the next morning so a friend of mine had to go bully Fed Ex into giving her my Xolair. She explained several times that it's a refrigerated medicine and that the packaging would only be good for another 12-24 hours and that I was unavailable to come get it. Fed Ex wouldn't budge until she explained it was a medication for severe asthma and t hat I worked for an attorney (which I did at the time)! Now I have it shipped to where I work so there's always someone to sign for it. Guest guest
Hi, LONG, LONG story short: Curascript is my specialty pharmacy, and the initial phone operators gave me the run-around for 2 weeks, in order to finally get my Xolair shipped, we asked to speak to a supervisor at Curascipt and she got the mess straightened out in (no joke) 10min.! So apparently when it comes down to it sometimes you just need to ask for a supervisor. Guest guest
Thanks, fellow Xolair injectors. It's good to know that someone else is also fighting this battle. Now I'm wondering if it has to do with the delivery issue although my original interpretation (and still is to some extent) was that they (Genentech) didn't want any responsibility for home injectors. Re delivery, well, I can't remember for sure who did deliver it ... was thinking FedEx but maybe it was UPS ... don't know. They were terrible about following directions ... were supposed to put package inside the fence which they rarely did. Instead, my $3,600 shipment sat in the driveway next to the fence or outside my front door where anyone or anything could abscound or mess around with it. I have visions of a dog or cat trying to " mark " it .... (and I have a dog and 2 cats - love 'em dearly) I complained to CuraScript several times about the poor customer service on the part of the delivery company but they had no solution but to sign for it. The delivery company was totally uncooperative about delivering on a schedule that was not feasible. I sure hope CuraScript loses money over this .... I will home inject today or tomorrow and talk to my doc next week. She was very supportive of my home injections and I've not had any significant problems that I'm really aware of (i.e., no itchiness, swelling, shortness of breath). I'm hoping and assuming that I will pick it up at the clinic (a medical school) which will cost me about a 35 mile drive (round trip) and $7.00 for parking plus the med. Will find out next week. The other part that really annoyed me was the patronizing phrase " it's for your own protection. " No, it's for the protection of the bank accounts of those who are selling and distributing! > > > > > > I just tried to order another month's supply of Xolair shipped to > > my home as I have been for 15 months when I was sorely informed by > > CuraScript [ never a favorite) that Genentech will not allow them > to > > ship to the patient.
