Guest guest
About a year ago the FDA posted warnings about anaphylactic reactions within 48 hours of taking Xolair. Please talk to your doctor about the symptoms of your attack and whether or not this might be one and whether or not you should continue Xolair. Apparently a small percentage of the population is affected in this way. In addition, go through the day in your mind and try to remember what else you were exposed to...was someone sitting near you in the theater who was drenched in perfume? Did you go to a smoky restaurant before hand? Play soccer in newly mown grass? Guest guest
Well...not being a doctor( which I'm sure everyone else reading this was thinking.) There really isn't really any way for any of us in here to be 100% accurate. People have been knowned to have a reaction up to two days after having an injection. HOWEVER...... Are you scent sensitive? There may have been someone or some thing in the movie theater that aggravated your asthma. Remember,Xolair does not protect against asthma attacks. Did you take all of the other meds you are on properly that day?! I know sometimes I " slack off " because I have had such amazing results with Xolair. ALSO..if you are allergic to certain trees/plants this is pollen season. AND movie theaters are not the cleanest of places...dust/dust mites. Xolair doesn't block histamines, so you may have been over exposed to something like that. But...like I said...I'm not a doctor. That night I went to a movie (Son of Rambow, by the way--go see it. It's great and simply the sweetest movie ever, but it's not a chick flick!). Half way through the movie I started having trouble exhaling, which of course means I couldn't get a full breath. I didn't feel like it was an emergency, however. When the movie was over, we walked to the car about a block away. It got worse. I discussed going to the hospital with my friend, but hit the albuteral puffer for about the 4th time and it seemed to be easing up. I called my doc the next day and she was concerned. She called me to check up on me the next day, so you know she was worried. My asthma attacks are usually manifested with a horrible cough that I can't control although lately I've been wheezing. Do any of you think my attack at the movie could be a result of the shot I had earlier that day?
Guest guest
Addy - I, too, thought I had an anaphylactic attack the morning after my second series of shots. However, I've since learned that coughing a lot brings on an asthma attack, and that may have been the cause of what I thought was an anaphylactic attack. When I start to have a coughing fit, I force myself to stop coughing (it ain't easy), and I haven't had an asthma attack since. It took a while to develop the association because it seems like coughing should be getting rid of the crud that causes the wheezing - or at least contributes to it. Just another one of those illogical mysteries of life. Yeah, Duke might have a pretty good season next year, now that Coach K got his new transfer Plumlee, to fill out the team and give him another big man. ----- Original Message ----- From: pyle456 Sent: Saturday, May 24, 2008 6:20 AM Subject: [ ] Re: Unusual asthma attack hours after my shot. Guest guest
With anaphylactic shock, wouldn't my eyes, throat, etc. swell? I have been in touch with my doctor about the attack, but no answers yet. I can't remember anything else that day-- I had been home most of the day and the movie theater was fairly empty (only about 9 people in the whole theater, so no one sitting nearby and no smell of perfume). I hadn't been outdoors much beforehand. (In fact, there's been very lawn mowing here in Chicago since it's been fairly cool. I'll be sure and post after my next shot. > > > > I had my Zolair shots on Wednesday. That night I went to a movie > (Son of Rambow, by the > > way--go see it. Guest guest
My sister went into anaphylactic shock from an antibiotic and her throat and lips swelled and she broke out in hives all over. I don't know if this happens in everyone who goes into anaphylactic shock or not. Geez. your dr should have called you back. I just had my first shot and the nurse told me to call her no mater how small the symptoms were(if I had any)m which I haven't. How are you doing now? Lets us know how you make out. I'll keep you in my thoughts. Jean ---- tomtedbear <tomtedbear@...> wrote: > With anaphylactic shock, wouldn't my eyes, throat, etc. swell?
