I had read that warning in the package literature and on the 'net.

However, fluroquinolone antibiotics are a must for me as the ONLY other

antibiotic I can take is z-pack and obviously cannot take the same

thing all the time.

I take it that there's nothing new re asthma or allergies though re

fluoroquinolones?

Yes, it is true that taking Cipro or Levaquin while also on Prednisone

can cause the Achilles Tendon to spontaneously detach. This happened to

me recently; had to wear orthopedic boot for 2 months, followed now by

more months of Physical Therapy. This warning is already in place on

Cipro and Levaquin package inserts ( but not featured prominently),and

is known by most Pulmonologists, who do still prescribe it due

to " rare " occurance ( no conolation to me).

Alternative antiobiotics are available; many are the Infusion type given

by Infectious Disease specialists rather than oral antibiotics.

Wow!! I've practically been taking cipro like candy over the past year. Given

the alternative of infusion, I think I'll stick with the cipro. I've had two

infusions - don't really care for the pic line in my arm - when I had MRSA plus

a couple of other infections in my sinuses, the vancomycin cost me $4,000, and a

few months ago the cefepime infusion cost me about $3,000. There is little to

no insurance coverage for infusion. Plan D now scratches the surface a bit, but

not much.

Ditto. They work great for me. And thanks to Xolair I have to take

them a lot less (like 2-3 times a year instead of 9 or 10).

Before I went on Xolair, I was in the ER/Hospital at least 40 times  in the last

10 because of my asthma.   I was on Levaquin AT LEAST  50% of those times.  I

kept telling  the doc's that I did not like that antibiotic what so ever.

Guess that is a pretty good example of hindsight being 20/20!!  (Might explain

why I have  problems with the tendons in  my ankle!)

Kathe

......who has officially been on Xolair for 3 years.  156 injections and

counting!!!   :-)

So what are good alternative antibiotics?
