Thanks. I was just recently diagnosed with a vitamin D deficiency for the first

time in my life. I am supposed to take 1000mg of vitamin D daily. And my level

was 19. Does that sound right to you?

I used to take tons of steroids-Prednisone. I was diagnosed with Osteopenia  I

think at 27. I still have it, but it hasn't turned into Osteoporosis yet. I have

plenty of calcium and that was normal. I don' t know why my vitamin D level is

low all of a sudden.

This is just a reminder to all of you to take your calcium and

vitamin

D per your doc's instructions. In fact, I would recommend you have

your doc check your vitamin D level at your next appt., especially

following the recent announcements that the population is generally low

in vit D AND given the fact that it's pretty useless to take calcium

without sufficient vit D. My doc tested mine six months ago, and I had

dangerously low level of Vit D. She put me on a script of Vit D ($20

for a year's worth), and last month my level tested within normal range.

Also, if you're over 30 and have taken a ton of steroids, I encourage

you to ask your doc about a bone density test. I was diagnosed with

osteoporosis at 38. Thank you, prednisone!
