Guest guest
Addy, yes, I saw the article and your summary is very good. I for one hope they do not take ADVAIR off the market. I made it through the drastic weather change here (84 one afternoon, freezing that night and struggling to make it even to 60 the next day with lots of wind) with only a few sneezes and runny nose, but I have felt a little draggy. LABAs such as Serevent are found in Symbicort and Advair. There's some discussion about requiring LABAs be in conjunction with an inhaled corticosteroid, as they are in Symbicort and Advair. The advisory panel has weighed in and recommended the FDA NOT get rid of LABAs due to benefits vastly outweighing the risks. Panel also said risks can be very well mediated through patient education and appropriate use. It's raining today; I have " double " dark circles and a huge headache. Did anyone see the holiday episode of House with the patient who was misusing her inhaler? Jeff (hubby) saw the commercial and made sure I saw it b/c he thought it was so funny. I thought it was extremely funny, but I was sure to tell him that people do really misuse their inhalers if not instructed properly. Guest guest
Did you hear the news tonight? Advair and Symbicort are staying on the market. Foradil and Seravent are off. I was really afraid they were going to take all four off the market and I would be hurt by no advair as I still use it once a day. Guest guest
I take serevent and I take asmanex for my steroid. Flovent and pulmicort don't do much good for me. I guess I'm just screwed, huh? All this will do is cause more harm than good.? I wish the government would learn to stay out of our lives. -----Original Message----- From: Adah Voigt <asthmatic50@...> Sent: Thu, 11 Dec 2008 5:45 pm Subject: Re: [ ] FDA, Advair, dark circles, House Did you hear the news tonight?? Guest guest
I'll bet the asmanex folks get with the serevent folks and they have a combo drug on the market within the year. You may want to talk to your doc about taking advair 50/100 PLUS asthmanex. When I'm in an episode, I take advair 50/500 (even more steroid) plus astmanex, so Advair 50/100 plus asmanex might be a good option for you after you can't get serevent any more. Serevent is the LABA in Advair (the " 50 " ). Guest guest
Some of the doctors who were interviewed by the reporter were very unhappy saying it was like trying to save someone with one hand tied behind their backs. Maybe, though, this will spur the drug companies to keep on doing research into life-saving drugs for asthmatics. Look at how xolair has helped. Guest guest
I saw that part of the episode - never heard of anyone using an emergency inhaler AROUND them like perfume!!!! Wonder how the writers ever came up with that? It was funny but " House's " self righteousness sometimes reminds me a bit too much of too many docs I really have known. And, they seemed to think that every patient has the same level of ignorance! > > Did anyone see the holiday episode of House with the patient who was > misusing her inhaler?
