Guest guest
I switched to Xopenex inhaler about a year ago on Doug's recommendation and it was very helpful. Ask your doc if you can increase your inhaled steroid inhalers and try that before adding oral steroids. For example, I normally take Advair 50/100. The first step up is to increase to Advair 50/500. Next I'm supposed to add up to three puffs of Pulmicort twice a day. This usually allows me to get through bad periods without oral pred or at least use oral pred for a shorter time period and at lower dosages. This is a plan that my doctor and I worked out. It's been helpful. Hang in there! Glad you are seeing some improvement on Xolair. I, like your doc, would be hesitant in making any big changes in your treatment plan if a relocation is imminent. I'd wait until I got there, got through the stress and dust of moving, see what kind of exposures I was dealing with, and then work with the new doc to step down in my treatment regimen. Also, why would you stop Xolair if you are actually doing better? Guest guest
I think I have mentioned that my doc didn't cut my dose, but extended the time between doses. & nbsp; I now take 1 shot every six weeks. & nbsp; I have had some difficulty this last six weeks. & nbsp; He not only did that but also suggested that my allergist reduce the advair from 500/50 to 250/50. & nbsp; My allergist hasn't done that yet as I don't have an appointment with him for another two weeks. & nbsp; & nbsp; & nbsp; I thought maybe I was the only one whose dose/amount of time between shots had been reduced. & nbsp; Hope you feel better. Also, Dr is thinking to get me off the shots in the near future but since I also want to return to NY, he's hesitant. Meanwhile, FL has pockets of fires here and there. I do not like the new albuterol inhalers, dr put me on Maxair. IT works but I don't feel as effectively as the old albuterol. Any thoughts? Also, need to go back on the evil candy bc breathing has not been right and peak flows are not rising past 250-275 I am not familiar with Fl plants, something is out there though and is irritating me. I don't know the name but I know what area to stay away from. Thanks for reading, hope all is well with all of you and your breathing days are going well. take care
Guest guest
The one time my doc tried to reduce my dose (I take the max, 3 shots every 2 weeks), I had a terrible episode. Twice I've had to go three weeks between shots because of delivery problems and I have seen an increase in symptoms both times. My doc said that they think some people will be able to reduce dose or frequency but evidently I make too much * & !% Ige too fast. Guest guest
I will ask about the Xoponex Why take me off, he said other patients were being taken off it, he wants to see how I " ll do. Then the thought about relocated, he said to hold off As for advair, I was on 500/50, my voice got very raspy and I had to always clear my throat. Now I am on Symbicort and still have to clear my throat. thanks for your feedback. I appreciate it pyle456 <coachmac@...> wrote: I switched to Xopenex inhaler about a year ago on Doug's recommendation and it was very helpful. Guest guest
i can't even imagine reducing my dose - i beg the RN at my drs office to suck " just a lil' extra " up each time! after four years, i'm still more symptomatic the day before my xolair (max dose). it worries me that i'll have to go three weeks in july b/c of the timing of my drs vacation. ahh!! heather > > > > From: meencantador meencantador@ > > Subject: [ ] frequency of shots > > > > Date: Monday, May 26, 2008, 10:05 AM > > > > > > > > > > > > > > I will be receiving Xolair 1x a month instead of 2x a month. > > > > Also, Dr is thinking to get me off the shots in the near future but > > since I also want to return to NY, he's hesitant. > > > > Meanwhile, FL has pockets of fires here and there. Guest guest
I've been on Maxair for years since Albuterol started giving me migraines. Maxair is Pirbuterol, and Xopenex is Levabuterol. They are both chemically similar to Albuterol, but Xopenex is simply Albuterol without the l-isomer. Maxair does works quite well, but you will notice you don't get the racing heart or " rush " you get from Albuterol. This also happens with Xopenex. This leads some people to believe that the inhaler is not working because they don't feel it working as much. Some insurance companies will cover one and not the other. I will caution you that both alternative inhalers are very expensive with respect to Albuterol, so be prepared to pay a lot if the inhaler is not on your formulary. Best wishes, Kitty --- In , " meencantador " <meencantador@...> wrote: > > I will be receiving Xolair 1x a month instead of 2x a month. > > Also, Dr is thinking to get me off the shots in the near future but > since I also want to return to NY, he's hesitant. > > Meanwhile, FL has pockets of fires here and there. Guest guest
Addy, apparently I'm like you, if i'm more than about 2-3 days late I start have a major increase in symptoms. I can even tell when it's " time " for my shots as I get an increase in hives and overall allergy symptoms, the asthma (unless there's a contributing factor like spring, cotton spray, dog, etc.) seems to be ok for the whole 2 wks, but after that all bets are off. > > > > From: meencantador meencantador@ > > Subject: [ ] frequency of shots > > > > Date: Monday, May 26, 2008, 10:05 AM > > > > > > > > > > > > > > I will be receiving Xolair 1x a month instead of 2x a month. > > > > Also, Dr is thinking to get me off the shots in the near future but > > since I also want to return to NY, he's hesitant. > > > > Meanwhile, FL has pockets of fires here and there.
