Guest guest
ct allowed us to pay $600 down and $300 a month, we'll be paying it off way longer than he'll have the band but its the only way we could have done it and i told them that was the best we could do. they had to ask the corporate office for the approval. good luck > > > > > > You can do an initial payment of $600 then $600 a month for four > > > more months directly from your checking account. Guest guest
I think it also depends on where you get the band. In Houston the Doc band is $3750. They have a payment plan but I just put it on the credit card. > > > > > > > > You can do an initial payment of $600 then $600 a month for four > > > > more months directly from your checking account. Guest guest
My son goes for casting tomorrow (May 31) for his DOCband. We are also in Houston and after reading these posts, I wonder why there is such a dramatic difference in cost depending on location (at least it seems dramatic to me. Since our insurance denied coverage, paying $3,750 out of pocket is a little tough on the savings account). Has anyone else in another city had to pay this amount for their DOC band? It's worth it to me, no matter the cost, but I'm just curious. Thanks. Guest guest
Hi Lori, I asked the same question about the price in Houston and why it's so much more on one of the chats about a month ago when I was waiting for insurance (denial) and everyone I heard from said they paying less than us. I guess the issue is that we're not going to a Cranial Tech location - OPA is a third party so they can charge more than the standard company price. A friend of mine had her daughter banded by them 2-3 years ago and at the time they had a discount for people paying cash out of pocket. She told me to ask about it - which I did but was told they didn't offer that now. Bummer, huh? Good luck with your son's casting (and don't forget your checkbook or credit card!). Bring a bottle and a pacifier if your son will take one. Bob did a great job and didn't even cry until they sat her up to do the back of her head and we had to take the bottle away. Guest guest
Steve, that total price is about what I was finding here in Florida, too! All of the items you mentioned are included in Dr. A.'s price+hospital stay and transportation from San Diego airport. C Tampa, FL From: "renoalaska" <renoalaska@...>Reply- To: Subject: CostDate: Tue, 29 May 2007 23:43:24 -0000 I know many people who are considering Lapband surgery have probably went to a seminar here in the United States. I just want to let you know that when they quote you their price it is just for the surgery.I know, I went to a couple of them & they quoted me $17,500. What they don't tell you is intake appointment $75, consultation $495, respiratory dr $1,000-$3,000, respiratory therapist & equipment $1-2,000, psychiatrist $100-500, heart sonogram $$700-$1,000, nutritionist $1-3,000, + EKGs, X-rays, blood tests, etc.. I was going to get my surgery in the U.S. & had already paid out about $2,000 before I realized how much it was going to end up costing.Steve

Guest guest
Hi, Bipley! I heard that phrase many years ago while sitting in an ER with a family member. A nurse shared it with me as a result of all the ER docs that work the ER rooms that are not locally affiliated but work through a service. Since that time, I have applied it to many docs without steady practices, regular patients, etc.... I know with your background you get it! Hope all is well. I'm pooped as I have been kicking up the walking, and exercising this week. Awoke in my chair a little while ago and realized I hadn't checked my bandster mail. Gosh, how you do get addicted to this site and checking in with everyone. It is good for young and old bandsters alike, isn't it? Live well! Guest guest
Pattilyn... If you think you want surgery but just don't know which procedure to have I would suggest a gastric sleeve or band. But you won't find many here that are pro-bypass. Guest guest
I don't think it shows poor results by the band. One point the site makes that is true is that the band requires the most effort by the patient but I think we have it easier to keep off once it is off. For example, bypass patients just sit and wait for weight to drop off. Yet the flip side to that coin is that in about five years their body starts making up for lost intestinal tissue by growing more. Within a few years they will be back to absorbing fat and calories again but they'll never absorb proper nutrition the same again, that doesn't come back. At that point they are back to diet and exercise. If they could do that they would have done it already. Studies are showing serious long term problems with bypass such as neuro problems, etc. due to malabsorption. The sleeve is pretty cool but I believe overall that is the least effective for long term weight loss but I could be wrong on that. People do drop pounds quickly. But then they stretch their pouch and are back to eating large amounts of food eventually. DS... problems are about the same as with bypass. Banding requires the most effort on the part of the patient but it appears it will be more effective for long term weight loss and is by far the healthier choice. With the band I think the reason people are successful even though it requires the most patient effort is because after you have been on a low fat, low carb, no flavor diet for weeks or months you just get to a point where you can't pass up your favorite food anymore, burgers, cakes, tacos, what have you. It's too hard. The thing with the band is that it is hard BUT! It is the *kind* of hard people like us can do. Most of us want a large variety of food. The problem is we eat large portions of all varieties of foods. With the band you can still have a variety of foods but in smaller quantities. Most seem to have problems with carbs such as bread and most bandsters I know can't eat bread. Much as we may love it, it is not necessary for life and I know for me it is a choice and that choice is either to get thin OR have bread. I can't have it both ways. Lucky for me I rarely miss bread anymore. It's a small price to pay but well worth it. One other point to keep in mind is that doctors may consider it a success to lose something like 50-70% of your excess weight but I doubt many patients consider that a success. Most want to lose 90-100% of it. If the patient wants to be a healthy weight bad enough, they will. It's just like getting a band. Some folks will spend all their free time trying to find someone ELSE to pay for their band. Others will get 2nd & 3rd jobs, loans, sell belongings, whatever it takes to get the surgery. Since there are no magic WLS fairies out there giving away money for Lap Bands, who is more likely to get a band? Most that actually WANT the surgery FIND a way to pay for it. I've mentioned before, there is one person who sold her home to use the equity for banding. If people want it bad enough, they'll get it. Same thinking applies to weight loss. If someone wants it bad enough they'll lose 100% of their excess weight and keep it off with the tool... the band. My pcp was out of the office today so I have to wait until Monday to discuss the lovenax with him. Sure hope that I can work it out. Bipley <Bipley@...> wrote: Pattilyn... If you think you want surgery but just don't know which procedure to have I would suggest a gastric sleeve or band. But you won't find many here that are pro-bypass. Guest guest
I consider Lap RNY as a tool because healthy behavior is learned once you know that the pouch will reject the bad foods. The sucesful bypass patient does not sit around and waits for the weight to melt away, we also work hard by eating healthy and exercising regularly just like Lapband patients. Lap RNY is not on easy pass to thiner you is on invitation to making better food and activity choices. If we do not change our bad habits they will continue to hunt us for years to come regardless of the surgery type. We are all here to make healthier choices and to build a better life for ourselfs and family members. Blessings and smiles Rosy Lap RNY 03/07/07 257/215/125 -42lbs gone forever Thank you GOD Cost> > >Date: Tue, 29 May 2007 23:43:24 -0000 > > >> > >> > >> > >> > >> > > > > >> > >I know many people who are considering Lapband> > surgery have probably > > >went to a seminar here in the United States. Guest guest
Does anyone know what the cost of Xolair is (without insurance or financial assistance)? My doctor told me it is very expensive and I was wondering how expensive. Kim (sleepless in Utah - not due to Xolair, just miss my husband - he is out of town visiting a very ill family member)
Guest guest
No need to worry. Genetec and Novartis have a program, where you can get Xolair if you lose your insurance, have no insurance,  or if you hit a " pre-existing condition snag. "  There is information on the Xolair web sites, www.xolair.com or www.xpansions.com.  The program USED to be called S.P.O.C., but has since changed it's name...I forget the new name. > The " retail " cost of Xolair roughly $500 per vial.
