Guest guest
Hi Kathe, The bruising was one of the symptoms my doctor told me is a marker for Dercum's, so maybe it goes along with RA? THe ortho had thought it was due to the Bextra I was taking, but I had only taken it a few days before my " first " fall. Last Sunday a lady at church grabbed my arm (why does it suddenly seem there are so many arm grabbers?) and left a lovely purple bruise within minutes. Take care, and treat yourself gently! Guest guest
Kathe, Although prednisone is notorious for causing fragile skin and bruising, I'm not sure you're still taking it. Your other meds - Motrin, Effexor, and methotrexate - can also cause bruising and bleeding. It could be a combination of the meds. It's important to let your doctor know that this is occurring so that she can determine the reason and make sure it's not anything too serious (she may want to check your blood counts). Guest guest
Could be the Advair, Kathe. Since it could be any of the other three, too, or a combination of the meds you're on, I would definitely call your doctor and let her figure what's causing it. http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic/advair_ad.htm Sorry! Guest guest
I also bruise fairly easily. if I bump my thigh on the edge of a desk I'm bruised for a few weeks. My knees have some bruises that have been there since a fall I had over Thanksgiving when I got plowed down by a Golden Retriever and landed on my knees on a hardwood floor. Sounds like it's an issue for some of us but I don't think anything can be done about it other than some concealer. :-)

Guest guest
Had to find my other info.. here you go.. Fragile blood vessels are caused by a lack of vitamin C and bioflavonoids. Eat dark green, leafy vegetables and alfalfa sprouts to ensure adequate quantities of the blood-clotting agent vitamin K. These foods also contain iron, which is important to combat anemia, a possible cause of bruising. Citrus fruits contain vitamin K and are high in vitamin C and bioflavonoids, both of which are needed for strong capillaries. Fatty fish such as salmon or mackerel promote blood clotting with vitamin D, a nutrient which is also provided by sunlight. Easy bruising with slow healing is often due to a lack of vitamin C. Bioflavonoids should always be included in the vitamin C formula, as they exist together in nature and work synergistically. Vitamin E also helps prevent and heal bruises. Both vitamins C and E are antioxidants, which prevent free-radical tissue damage. Bromelain also accelerates healing. Herbal teas, baths and compresses relieve the pain of a bruise and speed healing. Twice a day, alternate rubbing the bruise with thyme oil and tea tree oil diluted in olive oil. Add 15 drops comfrey tincture to warm bath water. After bathing the area, apply arnica salve to absorb the blood, or alternate with St. 's wort oil to relieve the pain and help speed healing. Add an infusion of thyme, chamomile and horsetail to your bath. Use any of the following herbs for compresses: St. 's wort, comfrey, fennel, chamomile, witch hazel, calendula blossoms and peppermint to soothe and heal the injury. Drink plenty of rose hip tea to help prevent bruising caused by a lack of vitamin C. Would also take MSM.Suzanne <suziesgoats@...> wrote: Try arnica or deep tissue oil, heat massage oil, alternate hot and cold therapy...SV <shavig@...> wrote: Any suggestions? Other than stay off it?! Guest guest
Well, I know he gets his greens as he juices and eats two large salads a day and is drinking green smoothies that have at least 1/2 head of romaine. And we're raw fooders so he lives on fruits most of the daylight hours, so I doubt C is an issue. But the rest of it might help with the after effects. He honestly does not bruise easily so he really smacked himself. I will pass on the rest of the suggestions and get him back on his MSM. Guest guest
Nope--haven't noticed more bruising or bleeding. However, when I was anemic, I bruised very easily and my skin became very thin. While I have the " floor " I would like to share an experience. First, I will always have some asthma because of the condition of my lungs and because not all of my asthma is allergy induced. I have been on xolair for almost 2 years. In March when I saw the allergist whose office gives me the shots, he put me on 1 shot every six weeks instead of every 4 weeks. The week after I had the first " six weeks " shot, we had high allergen counts and the next weekend my saga began--a sore throat, followed by a dry cough, followed by sneezing, nasal drainage (used two boxes of tissues in two days--more than I usually use in two or three months!), then nasal blockage with the sinus pain, and now nasal drainage again but with a cough--very productive! My chest has been sore as well. I called the doctor last Friday and he put me on zyrtec D, which I started Saturday night, instead of the fexofenadine. But....NO infection! I have used my nebulizer about three times, but only one day did I use my inhaler several times. While I still have the cough and the nasal drainage, I did not feel too bad today, although the first weekend of this event, I really felt awful. I have run NO fever. So if the sinus stuff isn't as severe in the past when I have had to take an antibiotic and steroids, I guess I can live with a sinus rhinitis attack once in a while. But I had gotten so used to not having one of these attacks, that I am really spoiled. I will tell the xolair allergist--I did call my regular allergist so he has a record of how I felt. If I have another such event, I will ask to go back to the one shot every four weeks. I now know how much better I have felt since beginning the xolair. Thanks for letting me share...... Have a great week everyone--Here's to better breathing!
