Guest guest
Just curious because of my own dislike of taking any medication, but has anyone made major lifestyle changes to help control asthma? For me, Xolair has made a big difference and has allowed me to be off all other medications except Clarinex. I feel pretty OK and can do pretty much anything I want, but my peak flow is usually about 2.5-3.0, which isn't great. I do not like the way I feel on all those inhaled medicines with steroids. As we know, allergies will not be a problem until they reach threshhold level, so I was wondering if anyone made any other changes to their lives to minimize allergies and asthma. Thanks, Carol
Guest guest
That's great that you don't have to take anything but the Clarinex since xolair. When my asthma kicked in twenty years ago, the doc told me all of these changes I needed to make, including some dietary changes. I couldn't handle the asthma and all of the changes all at once, so I made small changes one at a time. Over time it made a difference. I got that idea from a book about one woman's personal experience with severe asthma (this was back in the 80's). I don't remember the name of the book, I just remember reading when my asthma was at its worst and thinking that if she could change things in her life to help her asthma, then I could too. Of course one of the things I was able to change was to change schools--I went from a high stress public school to a low stress private school and I think that helped also. I haven't made any changes since xolair as I still do what I was doing before xolair. However, xolair has made it easier most of the time. I hope I addressed your question.
