Guest guest
YES! YES! YES! I've done this now for almost two years. Sometimes I don't have to start pred if I start the 2nd inhaled steroid early enough. Guest guest
Yes, I have an extra inhaler. But now with Xolair I am also one of the almost 5 yr. anniversary. I already take maximum dose of Pulmicort and pulmo suggested adding 4 puffs QVAR 80 per day. Is there another ICS that I could add instead of QVAR? Adding more pulmicort doesn't help. Guest guest
For what it's worth, a year ago I went to an Opthamologist who specialized in retinal steroid damage. I am taking 20 mg a day of oral steroids and a couple of inhalers. I was trying to find out how much steroids and cumulative damage the two inhalers could be doing. The Dr was very emphatic that the inhalers have no where near the impact on your system as the oral meds. He indicated that the " delivered " steroids of the inhalers was relatively low and they did not concern him. Of course that is one man's opinion and I never followed up on it because my eyes were " healthy " . I would opt for the inhalers every time if they did the trick. Guest guest
Dear Addy and others: Thank you for your answers. What inhaled steroid do you add and what are you on now? I am on 1600 of Pulmicort and doctor suggested adding QVAR 4 times daily. Would any other one, (not as expensive as QVAR )help? **************Looking for simple solutions to your real-life financial challenges? Guest guest
On a good day I take advair 50/100 2xday. On the bad ones, I'm supposed to pump up to Advair 50/500. If that doesn't work, I can add up to 3 puffs of pulmocort 2x day. Once when I couldn't step down off pred, he had me add one puff of Asthmanex 2xday on top of the advair and pulmocort. I do not know what QVAR is or how any of these show up on your RX schedule. I have scripts for the Advair and get samples of the others for use when I have bad spells. Good luck and feel better! Guest guest
They've got me on Pulmicort, Foradil and Omnaris (a relatively new snorted steroid) plus Combivent. Seems to be working OK, but we're planning on a cleaning out (suction & flush) and packing with antibiotics of my nasty sinuses. Sort of a kill or cure approach. But less severe than the D & C they did at Duke four years ago. The idea being that if they can clear the sinuses, the asthma will follow, and then maybe I can get off Xolair. If that works, I'll have antibiotics available at home to take at the first hint of a cold or other infection. The idea being that a few cipros at the outset of a cold or other problem will keep me from getting more sinus infections that are a massive problem to cure after they're deeply rooted. Moreover, I'd love nothing more than to be able to get rid of the maintenance dosage of pred. i've been taking for two years, now. Guest guest
same here! i was on advair (500/50) and as i started to flare, i'd add an extra 2-4 puffs of flovent 220 twice a day. about 6 months ago, i switched to symbicort - but we stil add flovent in times of need. its definately helped me avoid prednisone a few times! hope the extra push of ICS helps you out! heather -- In , " royalashtonvp " <Oneroyal@...> wrote: > > I've been on prednisone for a month and can't seem to get off it.
