Guest guest
As bad as my sister's asthma got, my parents never took her to the ER and she never went herself, no matter how bad it got. She would go to the doc's office the next morning and when she was young, there really wasn't much more he could do for her. I do remember taking a Tedral twice when I had attacks when I was in Elementary school. I would use my sister's nasty asthma nefrin also when I was having a mild attack. Mother would put water on to boil, and then cut off the fire and form a " tent " for my sister to breathe in. That is similar to the bath steam room. There wasn't much more that could be done back then. I am so thankful for the progress made in the treatment and for xolair especially. My doctor does not prescribe it anymore. The liquid form was yellow and tasted like licorice. http://www.sk. lung.ca/drugs/ pages/240. html I also took a drug called Quadranal which is a combination product of these drugs: ephedrine hydrochloride; phenobarbital; potassium iodide; theophylline http://www.onlinedr ugtest.info/ generic-quadrina l-information. html I still vividly remember the late 1950's when I was around 5 years old. My asthma would get so bad that there was nothing my mother could do but fill the bathroom full of steam and hold me in her arms till the valium & Tedral took effect. To this day I don't know why they didn't take me to the ER. My doctor said that I was not old enough to use my dad's Asthma Nefrin squeeze bottle neb but I did anyway. Guest guest
My sister had asthma when we were young and was in the hospital in a tent. I did not have problems as long as I was in our area. When I moved to Mankato, MN I had problems but no one could figure out my problem. Then I moved to Chicago and really started to have problems and no one could figure out the problem until I went to a clinic and the doctor advised me to go to a lung specialist and now I am on Xolair and doing somewhere between ok and well. Guest guest
I used Quadranal too. It was a major help to me at the time because it really worked well for me. But it screwed up my thyroid because of the potassium iodide. I had to switch to another medicine called Veraquad. ________________________________ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Volz Sent: Friday, September 26, 2008 9:32 AM Subject: Re: [ ] Asthma in the covered wagon days My sister had asthma when we were young and was in the hospital in a tent. Guest guest
I think I should mention that my sister was born in 1940 and had asthma from the time she was two months old. I was two years old. We were teenagers during the 50's and we both got married in the 60's. In her early 20's she began going to an allergist and that is also when the doctor began giving her other meds to treat her asthma. My asthma kicked in in 1986 during an extremely heavy mold/mountain cedar season. Glad you are doing better, Sr. . I'm glad for the xolair.
