Guest guest
It is a big increase if your IgE levels were low when you started. If they were already fairly high >500, then that is maybe where you should have been from the start. > > I have lingered on this site for quite some time now, but have never posted. I am 29 years old and have been getting sick every month for the past three years. I started xolair about 7 months ago and it is helping but I am still getting sick, I am still on albuteral, advair, the home nebulizer, singulair, and steriods which is common with us, I suppose. Last month i was in the hospital for a few days with pneumonia and have not fully recovered yet. I was on 150 mg of xolair once a month, my doctor thinks the reason I still get sick every month is because I need a stronger dosage, so he told me he would bring me up to 300 mg. (I figured 300 mg a month) I spoke with the pharmacy that sends out my injection and they said that he sent in the script for 300 mg every two weeks I am 115 pounds and that just seems like a really big increase from 150 mg to 600mg in a month ... Has this happened with anyone else? Or what are your opinions regarding this? > > Thank you, > > Diane >

Guest guest
Hi Diane: My name is Kathy and I've been on Xolair 375mg twice a month for 5 years I think your doctor would know if the 300mg is too much for you, ask him/her. I was sick all the time too. My doctors (pulmonary, allergy) said my antibodies were low, they sent me to a immunologist and sure enough the antibodies that protects us from colds, pneumonia was low. Every 6 months they test my antibodies and if there low they give me a pneumonia shot. Yes, I know you're suppose to only get the shot every five yrs. The pulmonary/allergy doctors questioned the immunologist (who happens to be one of the best in the country) and he said it would be fine. I've been getting this shot for three years now, I got this shot last week but, I had not needed it (blood tests) since last year. I have not been as sick twice in three years, and this time I did not have to take any prednisone (this is a first), just the antibiotic. Guest guest
wait, it sounds as if you may need some ivig. usually they give you the pneumovax to see if you mount a response to it. did they check your levels pre and post injection to the the various strep/pneumonias? is this perhaps what the immunologist was looking at? i would think he would have explained this to you. ________________________________ From: kathy eisen <kathyh1942@...> Sent: Wednesday, March 4, 2009 4:29:22 PM Subject: Re: [ ] Increase in dose Hi Diane: My name is Kathy and I've been on Xolair 375mg twice a month for 5 years I think your doctor would know if the 300mg is too much for you, ask him/her. Guest guest
Having become a " practiced patient " , I would maybe suggest that you call your doctor's office and have his P.A. or nusre to ASK him if this is the intended dosage change. From personal experience, I have found that the occasional error is made in doctor's notes--i.e. he could have written twice monthly and meant once a month or the P.A./nurse/clerk could have been in a rush and there was a miscommunication. An error could also be made at the pharmacy. I usually try to be diplomatic about it and say, " Ummm Dr. X said for me to take such and such but the script says something different? Would you be so kind as to confirm it with him? " All of these people have a ton of paper work nowadays after all. ________________________________ From: uca79iii <uca79iii@...> Sent: Wednesday, March 4, 2009 4:12:48 PM Subject: [ ] Re: Increase in dose > > I have lingered on this site for quite some time now, but have never posted. Guest guest
I didn't notice any improvement on Xolair until it was kicked up to 375 mgs every two weeks (originally 300 every two weeks). Actually, due to my high weight and IgE together (IgE was 409) I'm in the do-not-treat zone too according to what I've read. However, it eventually did help. I'm not sure that there is so much of a " too high " dosage with Xolair as there is with other meds. I think (and this is strictly a personal non-medical theory) that's it's more to do with only exposing you to what you need as it's still very new in the big scheme of things. As far as the injections went, I didn't really notice any difference in the way I felt with the increase with the possible exception of the first 1 or 2 times when I felt somewhat " disconnected " for the first few minutes. However, there was nothing serious like anaphylactic shock at all. In the long run there was some relief. > > I have lingered on this site for quite some time now, but have never posted.
