Guest guest
Hey Your daughter said the shots hurt. How do they hurt? Does it hurt when the needle goes in OR does it hurt when the solution hurts? I only ask this because the person doing the injecting MAY be doing it wrong. The Xolair is really thick so it should be injected SLOWLY. AND the needel used to draw the Xolair out of the bottle is NOT the same needle used to inject. The nurse who did my initial injections was actually trained by a Xolair employee, then they trained me to inject myself. I found that the trick is to " pinch the skin " when putting the needle in and not putting it in to far. Then inject SLOW. I've been on Xolair since July 2005 and have been able to dramatically change my life around in a positive way. Guest guest
It hurts when the solution is injected. My dd gets three shots. The first one looked like she injected slowly, i didnt notice the 2nd but the 3rd I though she injected too quickly. I think she did this because my daughter was complaining it hurt. I will watch them the next time to see exactly what they do and will also ask if they were trained by a xolair employee. If you get a chance could you let me know how they switch the needle that draws out the soution to the needle that injects? ' I am glad that the xolair has worked out for you. It is encouraging. Guest guest
I find Xolair shots much less painful t han traditional allergy shots. I give myself Xolair, and the only time it hurts is if I do a bad job sticking myself. The needle switch is no big deal. The needle is screwed onto the syringe like any screw top (righty-tighty, lefty-lucy). You just unscrew the larger needle which is used to draw the fluid from the vial (while holding the syringe upright, of course) and screw on the smaller needle, then follow the usual instructions for filling the needle prior to giving the shot, and so on. Xolair should be given slowly, primarily so it has time to get in there and doesn't leak out the injection site so you don't lose any money--I mean dosage. I'm glad your daughter didn't have any reaction after this 2nd set of shots. I know that must be a big relief for you. Guest guest
Thanks Addy. Thats the thing, my daughter was getting allergy shots a few years back and never complained they hurt, got bi-weekly blood test for a long time and although I could tell it hurt sometimes by her face she didnt complain, but these shots she said really hurt. One of my fears is she wont go back, and another is I dont want the nurse to be doing it wrong. Is there a way i can tell that they switch the needle to the smaller one (other than ask)? This office has made a few mistakes with things like submitting the original order, notifing me my daughter was approved, appt. screw-ups, lets just say they dont instill a lot of confidence in me :-). Another question if you dont mind, if I decide to change her doctor does my dd have to be approved again through curiscript or can I just call and tell them we switch drs.? OK enough questions for now, thanks to everyone for your help. Stay well. jean On Tue, May 26, 2009 at 6:07 PM, pyle456 <jamcculloch2@...> wrote: > > > I find Xolair shots much less painful t han traditional allergy shots. Guest guest
There is a such a significant difference in the size of hte needle used to draw the Xolair and the size used to inject it, that I can't imagine the doctor's office is getting it wrong. Moreover, the size used for the draw is specifically a " fill " needle, NOT for injection. It is HIGHLY unlikely the nurse is getting it wrong. The size used to draw the Xolair is 18Gx1 and the size used to inject is 25Gx5/8. You'll probably have to ask. I don't know about the procedure for changing doctors, if the new doctor has to do a new order or what. I suggest you call curascript and ask. Guest guest
My second shot hurt, but it was given to me by a different nurse from the first one. I had a knot and a bruise. I saw the doctor before the next shot, told him and I now have the same nurse give me my shots every time.....very slowly! No hurts, no bruises! Guest guest
Thanks Addy. If the needle is that much different in size and also marked then I'm sure they are doing it correctly. I will ask for my own reassurance but feel better about it. Guest guest
It also may be worth having the nurse, or whomever is administering the injection to make sure that the finished solution is completely dissolved. If it is not totally in solution, the precipitates can cause local pain, and potential decrease in efficacy (although no real immediate danger to the patient) Glenn > > > > > > > > > > > > From: gigles_1955 <fgigles55gmail (DOT) com> > > > > > > > > > > > > Subject: [ ] 2nd xoliar and no reaction > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Date: Monday, May 25, 2009, 11:16 PM > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi and everyone. > > > > > > > > > > > > My daughter had her 2nd series of xolair shots last Friday. Guest guest
If the nurse isn't properly trained, they could easily screw things up. Case in point:The needles I have for home injection AREN'T marked fill or draw. I have prepackaged kits that are included with my shipment, which are labeled. XOLAIR SUPPLY KIT ( PER VIAL)2----3cc BD safety syringes2----18 g x 1 in. safety needles2----25 g x 5/8 in safety needles4--- Alcohol swabs1---Bandaid My initial point for asking was...because I was properly trained to self inject I know that the 18 gage needle is for " reconstitution " . AND...it doesn't take a rocket scientist to notice that the 18 gage needle is like twice the size as the 25 gage. HOWEVER there are nurses out there who are injection and don't really know what they are doing (as well as nurses who think they know everything and that patients know jack.) so it it possible that the wrong needle could be used to inject. (I have been getting 2 injections every 2 weeks for almost 4 years now.) From: pyle456 <jamcculloch2@...> Subject: [ ] Re: 2nd xoliar and no reaction Date: Tuesday, May 26, 2009, 9:02 PM There is a such a significant difference in the size of hte needle used to draw the Xolair and the size used to inject it, that I can't imagine the doctor's office is getting it wrong. Guest guest
Dear My name is Sr. Pat. I have been taking Xolair shots since 2004. I have had some pain with the injections and that is when the shot sits to long and when the doctor tries to inject it to fast. Or some times I think she goes to far into the arm. But it is only hurts for a little and then it is fine or maybe a bruise. I hope you daughter continues it has helped me very much. Guest guest
Thank you Sr. , I appreciate your response. It is very encouraging to hear that xolair is working for so many. I'm hoping my daughter continues as well and will show her all these encouranging post. jean - > Dear > > My name is Sr. > > As Always, > > Sr. Pat, C.R. > > > > > > From: gigles_1955 <fgigles55gmail (DOT) com> > > > > Subject: [ ] 2nd xoliar and no reaction > > > > > > > > Date: Monday, May 25, 2009, 11:16 PM > > > > Hi and everyone. > > > > My daughter had her 2nd series of xolair shots last Friday. Guest guest
Hi, Adah, I am doing ok. My asthma doctor is very impressed with how I respond to the Xolair. I have stayed out of the hospital for about six months. I am good as long as the perfume isn't around. I have to use a different computer to get on line. The regular computers that I use are not working for about 2 weeks. We are waiting for some one to come and fix them so I have a limited amount of time on the computer. I am getting ready to participate in another Asthma walk a thone here in Chicago. It is held in September but I like to start early because of fund raising and my family and friends are far away. Thanks for asking about me. Breathing better, Sr. Pat, C.R. > > From: gigles_1955 <fgigles55gmail (DOT) com> > > Subject: [ ] 2nd xoliar and no reaction > > > > Date: Monday, May 25, 2009, 11:16 PM > > Hi and everyone. > > My daughter had her 2nd series of xolair shots last Friday.
