Guest guest
my husband just came home from urgent care. the worst asthma attack in years. this time he needed oxygen, solu medrol injection, duo neb. they also switched his antibiotic from augmentin to levaquin. he had a 1 hour dentist appt this am, don't know if the stress of that brought this on. do others with asthma experience a real suddeness of the onset of an asthma attack? he was in bed almost asleep after the dental visit & suddenly couldn't breath well, very short of breath. he doesn't wheeze at all. dr said his lungs sound clear except up high in his chest. thanx, maureen k. Guest guest
Asthma attacks can absolutely come on very suddenly. Stress can certainly bring on an attack in someone who is asthmatic. It could be a combination of factors. For instance, if your husband is allergic to mold and there is mold in the building the dentist is in....Is your husband allergic to latex? Do they use latex or vinyl gloves in your dentist's office? I hope he feels better quickly. Guest guest
Was he injected with anything like lidocaine? Could be an allergy to some sort of dental material. Stress could come from the bill. Guest guest
that is good to know, when i ask the drs they seem confused that his asthma attacks come on so fast seemingly out of nowhere & he doesn't wheeze & lungs usually sound pretty clear. however, his oxygen saturation was only in the high 80's so i know he was feeling very badly. my husband is very allergic to mold & the outdoor air is high for molds today where we live.. i don't believe he is allergic to latex, but don't know what type of gloves they use. will have to remember to ask. thank you for your well wishes, i hope he feels better too! maureen k. ________________________________ From: pyle456 <jamcculloch2@...> Sent: Wednesday, July 22, 2009 6:06:43 PM Subject: [ ] Re: asthma! Guest guest
i know he's not allergic to lidocaine because he gets nerve blocks for his chronic pain all the time & they are a mix of lidocaine & sarapin. he had fillings of the white material which he has had before too. you are correct about the bill & he has another 1 hour of work scheduled. i am going to call the dds office tomorrow & ask them just to do 1/2 hour visit next time. i think that with his neurological disorder, it was just too much for him. he felt fine during the visit, it is always later that he suffers if he has done too much. when he spent an hour recently for the teeth cleaning, xrays & dental exam he had no bad reaction, so we thought he'd be ok. i think all of the drilling/filling was just too much. ________________________________ From: Leigh McCall-Alton <mccallalton@...> Sent: Wednesday, July 22, 2009 6:29:54 PM Subject: Re: [ ] Re: asthma!
