Guest guest
I also suffered from both asthma and sinus troubles--two sinus surgeries, no sense of smell--similar story to yours. Xolair had tremendous positive effects on both asthma and sinusitis. I recovered a sense of smell for the first time in years. After about 9 months on xolair, the sinus benefits started to wane and I am now back to my old stuffy self. My lungs continue to be miraculously clear. Like you, I had always assumed that my reactive airways were all connected and that the asthma and the sinus problems went hand in hand. My ENT says he has had other patients for whom Xolair had similarly temporary effects. pyle456 wrote: > > > Welcome to the group! > > I've been in the same boat you're in. Guest guest
I have had one sinus/upper respiratory infection in the three years I have been on xolair and I think it was because I was already under stress when the allergies started, plus I was out of the nose sprays. However, even with that infection, I only had to take an antibiotic and did not have to take prednisone. I went to the doctor today who is monitoring my xolair and I asked him about how long I would be taking the xolair. His clinic is a research clinic for xolair (I am not part of the research group) and he said they are not sure if someone will have to take it for life as it is still in the early stages. I am on xolair once every six weeks and have been doing well with that routine. He has one patient who gets the shot once every eight weeks, and is doing fine. So I think it probably depends on each individual patient. He would not say one way or the other, at least to me. He said as long as I was doing well with this routine he would leave me on it. If I begin to have difficulty, he will put me back on once every four weeks. This is my doctor and my particular case. Each one is different. Have a great weekend all. Here's hoping for easy breathing. Guest guest
I failed to mention that before xolair I had two or three, sometimes four sinus/respiratory infections a year--antibiotic/pred each episode. So xolair has really helped me in that area, which has also reduced my asthma episodes, even though I still have sob from time to time. But I have not had an episode at all where I could not do anything or had to go to the emergency room. Praise God and thanks to xolair! Guest guest
My doc almost put on Xolair last year but my asthma is under fair control. I too have had sinus surgery which relieved my congestion but did not help my nasal obstruction which prevent my sense of smell. Anyone one out there have any successes with long term restoration of sense of smell? My sense smell only returns with courses of prednisone. It is truly a drag being without... Guest guest
My ige was just above the minimum required for xolair and I met all of the other criteria. From: prankstermeri <prankstermeri@...> Subject: [ ] Re: Xolair for sinusitis Date: Thursday, May 21, 2009, 6:56 PM I am getting three shots twice a month. Sounds like that is more than anyone else and I only weigh 108lbs. Does that sound weird to anyone? My total IgE was just measured at 2,156 which is what they used for deciding how much to give me. It had been 2,822 last August. > > > From: heather <heaven1975@ ...> > Subject: [ ] Re: Xolair for sinusitis > > Date: Thursday, May 21, 2009, 7:23 AM > > > > > > > > > > i have a similar story to you and addy - sinuses, mainly caused by allergies. i'd pretty much go from one infection to the next. there were times i couldn't wean off the prednisone before having to be back on it for sinus issues. i've been on xolair for a while (5.5 years - wow!) and i'm much better. i still get sinus infections, but not nearly at the rate i had been. overall, even hte headaches are better > > good luck. keep us posted! > > --- In , " prankstermeri " <prankstermeri@ ...> wrote: > > > > I just had my first Xolair shot and would like to hear if it has helped any one's sinusitis. Guest guest
My daughter is 18 and her IgE is 5, 981. She gets 3 shots twice a month also. She weighs 165 currently. I was told they go by your weight and IgE levels. jean On Thu, May 21, 2009 at 9:13 PM, Adah Voigt <asthmatic50@...> wrote: > > > My ige was just above the minimum required for xolair and I met all of the > other criteria. > > > > From: prankstermeri <prankstermeri@... <prankstermeri%40>> > Subject: [ ] Re: Xolair for sinusitis > < %40> > Date: Thursday, May 21, 2009, 6:56 PM > > I am getting three shots twice a month. Guest guest
Hi, I get three shots every two weeks - my IgE levels have been as low as 4,500 and as high as a little over 6,000. ________________________________ From: Adah Voigt <asthmatic50@...> Sent: Thursday, May 21, 2009 9:13:48 PM Subject: Re: [ ] Re: Xolair for sinusitis My ige was just above the minimum required for xolair and I met all of the other criteria.
