Guest guest
I just had sinus surgery, all the bills haven't come in as of yet....but I'm over $40K for a 6 hour outpatient hospital stay. I have fairly good insurance, but still have to pay a large chunk. I feel your pain!!! ________________________________ From: meencantador <meencantador@...> Sent: Monday, May 18, 2009 3:56:48 PM Subject: [ ] gotta love hospitals I just got out of the hospital last week, I had the traditional gallbladder surgery. The gallbladder was too inflamed for the laparoscopic surgery. I can't begin to tell you the pain but morphine helps and I am using it less and less HOwever, I am at the hospital, they tell my friend to take all my meds home (I brought all asthma/allergy/ antidepressant/ antianxiety, etc with me) What does the hospital do? They fil the RX there., so I have to pay an additional to the bill. That is nuts when I had my meds all along My fav....I am sleepinng... .I get woken up to take a sleeping pill. Never fails which hospital I go to, this is what I go through. Also, it is the same hospital my asthma dr works out of, do you think they'd give me the Xolair? Nope, they cancelled my appointment and reschedulred it anyway, I am scared when these bills come in. 2 ER visits in NY, one in Baltimore, 1 in FL (I live in FL, that's when and where I got admitted) Now I am getting bills that if I don't pay in full I am going to be sent to collections. Guest guest
Yes, you can have the hospital resubmit to your insurance company, and you can also call your ins co and ask to speak to someone about why they didn't pay the bill. My husband does that all the time and usually they pay it eventually. Also, your hospital should set up a payment plan for you at a level you can afford. Good luck, Carol

Guest guest
hope you're on the mend!! the hosp always sends my meds home, and then realizes that they don't have something - then i have to call and have someone bring them back. the last admit (last spring for heart nonsense) i got smart - i hid my meds in my drawer and said they went home. then, when they couldn't get something, i had it! i've never had to pay a second round of copays in the hosp though. thats terrible! last spring, i got all sorts of bills for hospitalists who saw me (even for 5 minutes) who were not in my plan. i had oodles of bills. i was told by the billing agency (not collection, but the agency who does bills for the hosp) to call my insurance and have them call the billing agency and ask for a settlement. i did - and it worked. my bill was thousands, and the billing and ins agreed on something less, and i had to pay under $100. its worth a shot. hope you're feeling better!! heather > > I just got out of the hospital last week, I had the traditional gallbladder surgery. Guest guest
I just tell them up front: no generics especially asthma meds and heart meds because I have a lot of allergies. I also make them adhere to my meds schedule and have become adept at " swallowing " their pills and later taking my own. Hospitalists really do suck--they don't know anything about allergies usually and their goal is to get you out of there as fast as possible. ________________________________ From: B G <meencantador@...> Sent: Monday, May 18, 2009 7:38:38 PM Subject: Re: [ ] Re: gotta love hospitals thanks... gotta print out this e-mail. Guest guest
it is insane how much a procedure can be isn't it? you would expect the services and knowledge to match the fees but they don't. recently after a procedure which required a spinal block, they tried to get me to go home before I could walk around. Fun times I am telling you. ________________________________ From: B G <meencantador@...> Sent: Monday, May 18, 2009 7:25:04 PM Subject: Re: [ ] gotta love hospitals thanks for sharing I am a servous wreck because the bills are piled high I hope you are feeling better as well. Guest guest
The surgeon (I am still steaming I know the hospital is investigating), spoke to my mom before speaking to me. He told he I oculd be on a plane by the weekend. (Surgery was on a Thursday). It caused me a lot of grief because my mom makes mommy dearest look like other . My mom kept insisting I get on the plane because it was easier for me to travel than her to rearange her schedule. (Result: I have yet to get on the plane and mom is not talking to me........peace). I am annoyed at this dr bc he did not have my permission and he violated the HIPPA laws My PCP would not discharge me til Monday after the surgery, even that, was tough. It was a total of a week's stay :-/ I did tell the surgeon I was not happy with him., I am now thinking that is why he's not calling me back but the pain afterwards....let's put it this way, I am glad morphine is the drug and I don't have a gun From: Carlyn Albrecht <albrechtc2000> Subject: Re: [ ] gotta love hospitals Date: Monday, May 18, 2009, 4:03 PM I just had sinus surgery, all the bills haven't come in as of yet....but I'm over $40K for a 6 hour outpatient hospital stay. Guest guest
Did you file a complaint or grievance? If you didn't be sure to. Hang in there. If he's still not calling you back, call the doctor who referred you to him and complain. Guest guest
I just had sinus surgery (revision) and while the sticker price for everything (hospital, surgeon, anesthesia, testing, etc..) was well over $30k, the actual amount paid was closer to $10k. The intersesting thing is that is about a double what me and my insurance paid about 10 years ago for the original sinus surgery. --- Dharm > > I just had sinus surgery, all the bills haven't come in as of yet....but I'm over $40K for a 6 hour outpatient hospital stay. > I have fairly good insurance, but still have to pay a large chunk.
