Guest guest
Hi Everybody, Just as I was enjoying a few decent days since starting abx, I found deer tick firmly attached to my side! This unfortunately has never been a rare occurrence, but since we have been suffering drought-like conditions, we have noticed a drop in the amount of deer ticks we have been seeing. I felt sicker yesterday, and had a bad headache for the 1st time since starting Neurontin. Later, I found the damned tick. I am on 500mg. of Biaxin 2x a day. Anybody know if that would have killed any new spirochetes? Byron, what was that incantation again?!!! Sick of Ticks, Joan LI, NY
Guest guest
Joan, I had the same reaction when I found a deer tick on me. A hysterical call to my Lyme doctor (on a Sunday morning, no less) got me the information that I should be perfectly fine, since the antibiotics should kill any spirochetes it might have injected into me. I was on 1000 mg of Biaxin and 500 mg of Ceftin at the time. She did tell me to keep an eye out for any kind of a local reaction, of course, just in case. (I never had any further problems from it). I never saw the tick that infected me, so finding this *%( & ^_*)! thing on me was very upsetting. Jean

Guest guest
oh dear... I didn't know that.. Last summer I found a dog tick walking on my arm while I was lying on the sofa.. You can bet how I freaked out.. Actually I don't normally freak out when bugs are on me since entomology is an hobby of mine... This tick was swollen.. I guess I must have picked it up while I was working on the garden or the dog brought it in.. A couple of months ago, I found another tick on my bed.. shuddering.. but in both times, I took comfort that I was immune because of the antibiotics I was taking..And I didn't get sicker. I didnt realize till you shared with us your experience that current antibiotics may not be effective to new tick bites..oh geez, I camped in Maine for one week last Aug and three weeks in Everglades last Jan.. Now this is really scary, thinking our antibiotics are not protecting us from future lyme or related condition.... does this mean you need to avoid going outside as much as possible? Sorry to hear that, hugs, elizabeth In a message dated 99-07-24 05:36:58 EDT, you write: << My first known tick bite was July 27, 1996. I was finally beginning to feel better in early May of '97. Then, on Memorial Day, I found a deer tick embedded in my arm - at the inside elbow crease. At the time, I was on 1000mg/day of Biaxin, and 1000mg/day Cedax. I thought for sure that this would kill any new spirochetes, but, within a few days, I lost all the ground I had gained and continued to get worse than with the first tick bite. >>
Guest guest
Hi Patty, Did your LLMD ever give you an explanation as to why the abx didn't keep you from relapsing? Were you retested for Ehrlichiosis and Babesiosis after the second bite? Also, do you know if the testing for those two are any more accurate than the Lyme tests? I am calling my LLMD Mon. morning to tell him about the new bite and the swelling of my feet. This is such a complicated battle...just when we start making some progress, it's two steps back. But in order to make progress, we must keep fighting. Hope you're having a good day! Hugs, Joan LI, NY
Guest guest
Patty, I am glad you shared this with us.. I have asked other people with lyme, including a couple who host lyme chat groups, and they all feel that if one is still on antibiotic treatment, this would be effective deterrent to possible reinfection or whatever. I never thought about different strains nor different bacterial infection, so this is a wake up call.. I was going around with a sense of false security and I am sure a lot of others feel that way. You live not too far from where I live. So I will take precautions not only during camping trips, but also for outsdoor work in MY own yard. That will take some time to get used to.. my yard as an hostile environment.. sigh... I have no idea if I got bitten by these two ticks.. I guess I will never know.. Thank goodness I didn't feel worse afterwards.. Please keep us posted about your hubby. Thanks, patty elizabeth md << Hi , I'm sorry, didn't mean to scare anyone, but I think it's important that we realize the abx we're on MIGHT not protect us from further infection with new tick bites. One reason is because of the different strains of Bb, and another is because of co-infections - one tick might not be carrying Babesiosis and/or Erlichiosis, while a second, etc. tick may be carrying it. If you didn't get any worse from your second bite by now, I doubt that you're going to at this point - and that's good news! And I'm not saying that everyone on antibiotics will get worse with subsequent tick bites, but I do think that we still need to be just as cautious and anyone else when it comes to taking proper precautions against another bite. And if we take these precautions, then I don't see any reason for limiting outdoor activities. Heck, I wasn't even outside to get my second tick bite - I'm convinced that it came in on my hubby and decided it like me best! <G> But seriously, it's not just pets that can bring ticks indoors so I think that we still have to be vigilant and continue to check ourselves for ticks and take precautions. I have a ziplock baggie with 15 DEAD ticks that I've removed from either my hubby, me or one of my granddaughters - all since March! My hubby has already sprayed our property 4 times since March, and the one time that he went outside and didn't spray himself with Deep Woods Off, we found a deer tick embedded in his thigh. He's been on Doxy, 300mg/day since the day after we removed the tick, and will continue on that dose for six weeks - longer of course if any symptoms appear. So far, nothing in these 3 weeks - now, three more to go. Bottom Line - I think we have to continue to follow all of the advice that we give to others - tick checks, sprays, etc. because there's always the possibility that a new bite " could " make us worse. Have a great Sunday! >>
Guest guest
Patty I am giving educational talks when I feel good and badly need ticks for display purposes. could you email me and I'll give you my address to send the ticks you seem to find if you could spare them. I'm also with the Michigan Lyme Disease Association. Thanks Bev
Guest guest
Abbey, My polyps always came back in about 3 months, but not full blown. The only time they came back full blown was when I was working at a new job with chemicals and mold. Did you start a new job or change your where you live? Just curious. Tami Oh no! Hey Guys, I had my 4th sinus surgery the 19th of May, and I went back to my ENT the other day and i have full blown polyps already!!!! Two weeks ago I had none. What the heck???? He said he had never seen them come back so fast. What's a low salicylite diet? Does that help polyps or just the asthma?? Is there anything I can do? I checked into the NAET trestments but it's just way to expensive. Thanks!AbbeyAtlanta, GA
Guest guest
Dear Abbey, Weren't you the one who went on the mucusless diet and your pollyps went away? Wouldn't it be worth trying again? My idea is to go on the diet until the polyps are gone. Then adjust the diet some to be able to be heathy long term on it - such as adding a little meat and/or some soy milk for protein and B12. You could slowly add more foods if you wished a little at a time and you'd easily be able to tell if you reacted to the food - say if you added one food a week. I actually did a diet very similar to the one you went on called the Hallelujah diet and it worked for me too until I began to lose a lot of weight and turn orange since I drank a lot of carrot juice as part of the diet to get enough calcium and other nutrients. I went off this diet and very soon I felt really lousy again. A low salicylate diet helps asthma and polyps or it did for me anyway. It is the Feingold plan (instead of calling it a diet). You can find out more about it at www.Feingold.org. I would recommend the extremely sensitive plan to start on. Once your pollyps are better you can add more foods. NAET could maybe be used just to get tested for what you are allergic to and avoid them. That would be less expensive and you could get treated later when you could afford it. If you knew what to avoid it would really be a key to getting well. If you avoided what you are reacting to your body could heal and maybe later your body could tolerate those things fine or maybe you could tolerate small amounts. You can find out more about this at www.NAET.com. NAET has actually been curing my allergies. It really works. I can now eat foods that I know made me sick before. Oh no! Guest guest
So, was the feeling sick, from your reaction from the food you ate, or just the fact tht you did so well for 3 days and blew it? Kick out the guilt, if that's it. Tomorrow's another day. Start over and take it from there. If it's the food making you feel that way, then it is showing you your body can tell you it's not being fed right, and you'll only keep repeating it as long or as often as for the moment the wrong food makes you think how good it tastes is worth the feeling bad. After a while the thought of feeling bad will help you to prefer to eat right more often. Oh NO! > Ok.. so I did really well on my diet for 3 days.. then today I got > depressed. I'm convinced that's what we need. I think that's why I went bananas on dark chocolate last night and downed an entire slab during a movie. Yum. Felt fine till I woke up today bloated and 4 pounds heavier than yesterday. Chocolate is okay for little bits - not as a substitute for supper I don't think :-) But I sure enjoyed it. With hindsight I'd have done better on a escargot, mushroom and mangoes for a change of pace/taste. Keeping variety on hand is not so easy. especially low budget. Guest guest
I try to blame the scientist in me. I have to reproduce the results. Unfortunately it always works, feel terrible and usually bloated on top of that. On the positive side, feeling terrible tells me that the avoids are really bad for me, if I want to feel good, just get back to the beneficials. > Ok.. so I did really well on my diet for 3 days.. then today I got > depressed. Guest guest
I wince now at how I ate during college sometimes. I would go to church on a Sunday morning then before I cam home to lay on the couch and watch the Dallas Cowboys play, I would stop by Mcs and buy two quarter punders with cheese, no pickles, two large fries, a supersized Coke and sometimes a cherry pie. Then I would also go by a donut place and buy a couple of dozen donut holes! I'd eat all that and usually fall asleep before the end of the game. I'd be out of it most of the afternoon and then get back to studying or watching TV that night. I guess at least I was getting beef in the quarter pounders. Mama don't worry we all have had our time of overcoming the trails that have been blazed in our habits. You will get there :-) _____ From: Irene de Villiers [mailto:furryboots@...] Sent: Saturday, August 14, 2004 10:02 PM Subject: Re: Oh NO! mamaambota2003 wrote: > Ok.. so I did really well on my diet for 3 days.. then today I got > depressed. Guest guest
Once you have realized what you have done, you are OK. That was a lesson. I think we all cheat sometimes... That's life and naughtiness I do not have a sweet tooth (lucky me for a nonsecreetor). Cheese catches me again and again but then my body tells me no no. I think each cheat is a lesson. The basic thing is you shouldn't get discouraged. Stand up if you fall. TODAY IS YOUR NEW CHANCE. TO ESCAPE/REDUCE BINGES EAT YOUR PROTEINS IN DECENT PROPORTIONS WITH THE RIGHT VEGGIES TO FILL YOUR TUMMY. FOR CRAVINGS YOU HAVE THE OPTION OF ACCEPTABLE NUTS AND DRIED FRUITS (a nice combination) OR FRESH FRUIT !!! Love, Rose in Hungary

Guest guest
Agree with Gayle that it would be safer to throw it out. However, why not throw out the new scoby and the tea, but gently clean the mother scoby beneath and re-use it? Guest guest
Hi Everyone, Often if you have mold it gets into the KT and SCOBY not just on the surface. To use anything from a moldy batch could reintroduce the mold into your new batch. Keep a backup! I ended up throwing out the tea and the scobies from the fruit fly batch, but my other one has two scobies in it as well, b/c the mother sank to the bottom, so I have two backups.
