Guest guest
Hello, I have been on Xolair since May 2005, and had been on and off tapers of Prednisone for years, but for the past 4 years, I have been on a constant slooooooow taper. At one point, I was on 90mg of Prednisone 3x/day! I still can't even believe this because Pred has been a part of my life for so long, but in July of this year, almost exactly 5 years after the taper began, I will no longer be on Prednisone! I saw my pulmo/allergist last week and he said " how about we get rid of the Pred?, " I was shocked. We are doing a very slow taper, I will be on 1mg of Pred every other day for the next 4 weeks so I can wean off, but this is amazing! My doctor and I totally attribute the fact that I am doing so well to Xolair (375mg/2wks). It took me close to 18months to see a real 'improvement', but now I am like the poster child for Xolair. The best advice I can give anyone struggling with asthma/allergies/high IgE is to give Xolair a shot (no pun intended), if you tolerate it well, then you're not 'hurting' anything by continuing to get the shots, the worst it can do is not work for you, but the best it can do is finally get you off Prednisone! I just got through my 3rd round of shots (two shots per round) and have yet to feel a difference so I just want to know how long it took for some you all for xolair to take an effect....thanks everyone > > > > >
Guest guest
I can take up to a year. It can be very subtle change. My lung capacity improved nearly 10% and I stopped having sinus infections as often as I used to. Guest guest
Forgot to mention I have been off prednisone over 5 years. Some of this can be attributed to Advair. I only take that once at night. It's fun when all my non allergic friends have sinus infections and for the first time in my life, I don't get it! I was the Queen of Sinus Infections! From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of nbecker@... Guest guest
I started my Xolair 1/5/09. I get 2 shots one time each month. My peak flows have moved from the 350-400 range to 550-600. I hit 650 a couple of times now. I've heard that my reaction may be a bit on the fast side. Don't give up if you have not started to see a response for the first few months. My pulmo doc suggested it could take 6-12 months before a response is noted. Gest wishes and hopes. Guest guest
On Xolair since September 2003. First person in the State of Arkansas go get it. Relief came slowly after a year. I was on 50 mg of pred a day and peak flows were around 300. Today I am off pred and peak flows are around 800. Doug Group founder
